I just swapped out my Voile tip and tail clips w/ Karakorams on both ends of my board… a DIY job. The time had come.
FYI, my Voile tail clip (and tip at times) had become loose and would pop open when riding, esp when re-entering into in-bounds terrain (ie. trail, hardpack, groomers, etc) to get back to the car. It seemed to almost hold it’s…[Read more]

anyone have anything to add about snow cards and snow thermometers?
I might recommend the dark lexan crystal cards (BCA) mostly for contrast against grains, but also because the metal ones tend to melt the crystals quicker while viewing. For thermometers, def go with a digital one.

vtbackcountry replied to the topic Best splitboard for East Coast? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 9 years, 4 months ago
both of these are pretty good choices.
splitting on the east coast, i’d recommend a board with some camber under foot (for some spring/pop in variable conditions), a little taper in the tail (for quicker turning in trees), and some nose rocker for easier turn initiation in deeper snow. splits on the east coast tend to run about the same length as…[Read more]

I couldn’t agree more.
Still, I start by examining the pit wall first for obvious weak layers and obvious snowpack density changes (both visually and manually w/ fingers/brushes, looking for ‘gray lines’ in the pack), then I move onto my CT tests. Yeah, I said tests plural.…[Read more]

Sure looks like Roman’s in Wolverine, a definite repeat offender…
I might refer you to some AAI standards for choosing an ideal test pit location, just to help simplify things. Your pit location should be ‘SAFE, REPRESENTATIVE, and POLITE’.
Safe DOES NOT mean out in the chute/bowl where you plan to ride, but instead on a similar and smaller…[Read more]
