The middle finger goes through to the ridge. It is stupid steep near the top, as you know, but it does punch through without taking the skins off. That is really the only efficient way to the top of the fingers. As far as safe goes, well, you know how to look out for yourself.

Tex, are you looking at bibs or belts?

Personally I keep going back to the burton AK bibs. Every few years I buy pants that aren’t a bib, but that only lasts a season before I’m back to hanging my pants off my shoulders instead of my ass.

The AK pants have great venting, a simple mesh liner, no insulation, plus I like the way they look.
