Thanks. I think you’re right. I’ve been changing my stance every run looking for the sweet spot and, like you suggest, it’s probably a little farther forward than I’m used to.
Not knocking this board, but I do wonder if a more forgiving nose would make this a better resort ride. I’m sure it rules in the backcountry tho. FWIW I’m still…[Read more]
Alright so I’ve been riding a solid 163 a bunch at the resort and I’m trying to figure out what to do with this board. I’ve detuned tip and tail but feel like I need to go way farther to the center of the board than normal; this combined with all the camber and the magnetraction make the board feel really locked in to me (on harder resort snow;…[Read more]
The first turns of the year and the waxing, tightening, and buying of gear for the new season has made me want to putz around on my laptop and ‘finish’ this thread. (Yes, despite all appearances to the contrary, I am that anal.) Here’s a short highlight vid from last winter in the mammoth bc (per the thread title) as well as some stuff from June…[Read more]
Good stuff. I’ve never ridden it, so it’s all hypoothetical to me, but it’s nice to see other people on snowboards getting after it and to hear their impressions. When I lived up there I didn’t think my experience on steep and firm was sufficient to give it a go. Now I’d consider it, but only on the right day (lol). Preferably in easy pwder…[Read more]
Good job. I always tell people that riding steeps is kinda like free-soloing, you’re on your own, hanging it out there. You have to be honest with yourself about your abilities and experience. To be honest, I’m not sure I’d want to ride that face in those firm conditions (of course if I was on top of it, looking down, I probably would go for…[Read more]
I use an app called Topo Maps, which was around $7 I think. I’ve used it to find the car below treeline a few times by marking waypoints in the morning. It doesn’t do tracks, but that doesn’t seem like a problem to me unless you were on a crevassed glacier in a whiteout or something. If it’s mid winter and really cold, battery life can be an…[Read more]
That area is kinda in the no-man’s land avy forecast-wise. I *think* the forest service is trying to have a forecaster in Bridgeport (mainly for snowmobilers around Sonora, etc.); something to keep an eye out for in the future.
