You’ll probably meet tons of people on the parking lot at Rogers Pass – lots of seasoners heading up there for touring. Just head up there in the morning and hang out by the entrance of the visitors center with your board and you’ll have a crew in about 3 minutes. Maybe 4.

trondh replied to the topic My mini-review of the Dakine Altidude 40L ABS pack in the forum The Gear Room 9 years ago

Hard to say. It feels about as roomy as an Osprey 38, but I haven’t measured it. I usually dont fill it up all that much, and the helmet goes inside the backpack instead of on the lid if I have room for it. But I don’t feels it’s any smaller than other 40l packs I’ve tried or owned.

My black diamond guide gloves is the only pair I’ve ever had to last me more than a season. They’ve seen upwards of 250 riding days now, and still going strong.

That’s really interesting. I don’t know if they are using different materials on the 40L and 25L, I kind of doubt it. I’ll just have to see how it holds up with use.

THe 40Ls google pocket is in the lid, where it kind of rests “inside” the helmet so no worries there.

trondh replied to the topic Headlamps for night riding? in the forum The Gear Room 9 years, 3 months ago

+1 for the trailtech. When riding in trees you need more light than you think, so those small “tent lights” won’t do it (imho)

This is from last week, btw:

But how fun could this be on those nights when the storms clear out at sunset, just turn on for descent? the Trail tech motorcycle light, probably lights up the whole bowl…

trondh replied to the topic gecko skins in the forum The Gear Room 9 years, 3 months ago

I’m experiencing snow between the skin and my board both front and back with the geckos. Not that it’s a big problem, but they seem to stick a bit less than my old BD/Voile skins, never had that problem with them. Apart from that, I’m super-happy with my Geckos. Glide/Friction seems to be somewhere between the G3 and Voile ones.

trondh replied to the topic Why do splitboarders ride such long boards? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 9 years, 5 months ago

IMHO you just need to try a range of lengths and board types to find what suits you. And not as in try a 172 for one in-bounds run, a board takes at least a few days of getting used to. Buy something used, try it, and sell it if you don’t like it.

I used to ride a 156 fish and a 156 skate banana, now I just ordered my second 172 split. When…[Read more]

trondh replied to the topic Acrophobia, The Fear of Heights. in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 9 years, 7 months ago

I have been struggling with a fear of heights as long as I can remember, but it didn’t really “surface” until I started splitboarding 4 years ago.

For me, what triggers it is the feeling of being “unsafe”. Icy traverses and a lack of splitboarding teqnique at the time, for instance, would freeze me right up. I also noticed that the fear of…[Read more]

Lots of good kitesurf close to Stavanger. Snowkiting is also quite popular in Norway. from Bergen you will find splitboard-able mountains within 30-45 mins of driving from town, the Voss area is the closest are with “real” mountains (as in, “snowboard-movie-worthy” mountains 🙂 ).

Keep me posted, I’m in Bergen/Voss from time to time.

trondh replied to the topic Norwegian splitboarders in the forum International Split Forum 10 years, 3 months ago

From Bergen you can get to the Voss area (W/NW from Bergen) in about 1,5 hrs. Awesome mountains there. Bergen-Sogndal is about 3,5 hrs (Sogndal has some of the best “fun-terrain” in the country in my opinion)

Stavanger: roughly 3 hrs to Røldal/Haukeli which has an amazing snowfall but too much “weather” and not enough treeruns for grey days.…[Read more]

trondh replied to the topic What do you think of the forward lean on the karakorams in the forum Bindings 10 years, 3 months ago

I did 2 days of testing on the Split30 for the distributor here in Norway, and the forward lean is pretty much the only gripe I have with this binding. The SL version goes way back, but the “regular” Split30 all the way back is about at the same angle as a Spark Burner set to 2,5 on the hiback adjuster. The Karakoram gave me blisters on long…[Read more]
