What about just doing up the toe strap really tight on the trouble binding?

I put some K2 high backs on my Sparks sans drilling or cutting. I found that the Bent Metal high backs weren’t very comfy for my skinny calfs.

Those crampons lying on the floor look to be more like the old Burton crampons rather than the Voile ones. Are my eyes deceiving me?

That looks awesome.
I’ve never used flow bindings before, but i’ve wondered how easily there are to get out of if you were caught in an avalanche (releasable bindings?). Getting one foot out shouldn’t be too hard, but getting both out at the same time might be tricky.

The sparks could be beefed up by adding a bit more to the bottom slider piece (it’s also horse shoe shaped). The bottom piece could have sides that would be bent up so that it covers the outer plastic shim (similar to how the top binding piece folds up). There would have holes for the pins to pass through and this would reinforce the toe part from…[Read more]

My theory on the broken “front” riveted pieces is large feet closer to the board. Snow can pack down under the toe, resulting in even less space, which in turn causes excess force against the pin. Even without snow packing here, it doesn’t take much lift to make the toe touch the top sheet.
That totally make sense. You can create a lot of…[Read more]

I’d personally include:
Turkey: We’ve all seen Jeremy Jones’ blog about the super old wooden boards. Probably the birth place of snowboarding.
Revelstoke: Lots of backcountry snowboard related things are from this town. Craig Kelly guided out of Revelstoke. The first splitboard guide Scott Newsome is stationed out of Revelstoke. It may be…[Read more]

The old Burton brackets had a plastic reinforcement that sat over the metal piece to protect it and expose less of the metal (only the holes for the pins). I wonder if something like this would add durability to the Voile brackets?
Or could you make a touring bracket out of a solid piece of UHMW? This may interfere with the Mr.…[Read more]

I’ve had one tab come seriously close to coming off. The other tab had some long cracks too, but not as bad. At this point the holes where the pins go were also heavily worn, and a deep groove had formed where the pin laid across. This was on the older split decision, with the blue flames. It seems like in walk mode, the tab was bearing a lot of…[Read more]

You can also rent splitboards at the Outdoor centre, in case you want to try before you buy.
In Rogers Pass there is Glacier Park Lodge, which is a hotel. This is probably where you will end up staying, but if you want to get him out to a backcountry hut without a long slog or commitment, you should check out the AO Wheeler hut. It’s only 1 km…[Read more]

Yamnuska mtn guides (yamnuska.com) also does Rogers Pass guided weekend trips.
The U of C outdoor centre (calgaryoutdoorcentre.ca) does their Rogers Pass ski weekends as well. They’re based out of Calgary, so you can carpool with some of the other people on the trip. Since you are flying into Calgary anyway.

Another video:
http://www.biglines.com/blarticles/3891/Atomic_Snowboards-_SIA_Splitboard_VideoA terrible amount of BS comes out of the reps mouth.
“No extra pieces, everything is connected”. I had to replay the video to make sure I really heard that correctly.
I was hoping to see how the the crampon attaches to the binding. In this demo it…[Read more]

I’m not sure why they decided to have the heel lifters come off like that. I would glue those board clamps on the board and just have them flip away in ski mode. Just keep it simple and put some voile style heal lifters on there. It looks like a pain to have to twist that thing to get them on and off. What are you saving… like 10 grams? And then…[Read more]

Will,
Nice video that’s up on your website.
Did I see a releasable heel lock-down in there? 😯 😛
It looks like you’re coming up with a full plate of offerings for a splitboard set-up. Very nice.
Are those spark crampons in the video destined for release this season, or will you be sans crampons for the first year?SRA replied to the topic Random Gear forum? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 15 years, 8 months ago
Considering that there are dedicated forums for the reviews of boards, boots and bindings, and there aren’t that many reviews… one more forum for gear wouldn’t hurt.
I think a gear forum would help reduce all the mods, conversions and DIY topics that repeat.
I find there are plenty of general news, weather and non-splitboard topics that would…[Read more]

I picked up a pair of the Nuptses last year instead of getting some AT boots. I only put one day in on them but the general impressions were that they were very stiff. Not in the ankle, put the soles don’t bend at all. I didn’t think I would notice it much when the boots are in strapped down in the bindings, but I did.
The cuff height was not as…[Read more]

What’s the time frame and cost estimate for just the bases compatible with the Ride bindings?
I’ve already got a pair of Ride LX’s.

The problem I found with the sling style is that I was always taking if off and putting it back on when changing layers.
Before the packs were available, I tried strapping the sling version to the left shoulder strap of my existing pack. Zip ties and small straps worked well. The problem was that it made it hard to reach the loop to tighten the…[Read more]

For flats use x-country ski wax on the base instead of skins. Way better glide and still a little stick. You might have to clean off the wax before you put the skins on though
