I am amazed at the stupidity of people around here sometimes (I don’t exclude myself from that equation either).Yeah, everybody gets careless sometimes. He said it was waist deep and heavy at the top of the Bridger Lift but good skinning and skiing. He saw “tons of HUGE avalanches”, which included watching a skier trigger a monster dry slab from the top of Saddle. Also saw lots of fresh debris in North Bowl and Avy Gully. He was amazed at the…[Read more] splittilps replied to the topic SW Montana Conditions 2011/2012 in the forum Montana 10 years, 2 months agoYeah, I hinted that we should leave Bozy ridiculously early but it wasn’t my trip to plan and the the others got some bad weather info (expected it to be colder). I’ve never been there before so I was just stoked to sight-see. I agree, 9am descent would have been best but we didn’t think that the chute (or anything else) had froze at night…[Read more] splittilps replied to the topic SW Montana Conditions 2011/2012 in the forum Montana 10 years, 2 months ago@nickstayner wrote:What time of day were you guys up there? We left the truck at 7:45 (did you guys have the same rock slide blocking the road when you were there?) and got back at 2:30. The school bus-sized cornice, rock fall, and quickly deteriorating snow conditions turned us around at an elevation about midway up the coulour. How was stability overall? Dig any pits? Depth hoar? I’ve been hankering to get into the T Roots some time soon. Unfortunately wind loading and lots of natural sluffs kept us off of the steeper lines but the trees (Beetlejuice) were great until it got too warm. The new snow was NOT bonding to the sunbaked surface of the old snow and we were creating…[Read more] splittilps replied to the topic Hut trip advice. in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 10 years, 3 months agoHow do 4 people burn through a roll of TP in ONE DAY?!?! I have the Bell Lake Yurt reserved 2 weekends from now. We were worried about stability and where to find lower angled terrain if needed. Now I wonder if I should pack my swimsuit 🙁 . The Snotel data for the Tobaccos looks awefully similar to the Bridgers. It may be a longer drive than Hyalite (I live in Bzn) but you also don’t have to skin as far. Are they really that heavy? Every little bit counts but with the pucks being THE thing holding you to your board they don’t seem like the best place to shave what I’m assuming is a miniscule bit of weight. splittilps replied to the topic Montana Suggestions in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 10 years, 5 months ago@Colin wrote: Resort days at lost trail can be pretty rad, too.Sounds like they have WAY more snow than Bridger or Big Sky this year too.
