Wow. I am amazed at the stupidity of people around here sometimes (I don’t exclude myself from that equation either).

Yeah, everybody gets careless sometimes. I blame GoPro / YouTube and a misplaced craving for validation for a lot of these things. But then again, I’m getting old, jaded, and crotchity. Probably just have a…[Read more]

Not me but my coworker was up there on Sunday. He said it was waist deep and heavy at the top of the Bridger Lift but good skinning and skiing. He saw “tons of HUGE avalanches”, which included watching a skier trigger a monster dry slab from the top of Saddle. Also saw lots of fresh debris in North Bowl and Avy Gully. He was amazed at the…[Read more]

Yeah, I hinted that we should leave Bozy ridiculously early but it wasn’t my trip to plan and the the others got some bad weather info (expected it to be colder). I’ve never been there before so I was just stoked to sight-see. I agree, 9am descent would have been best but we didn’t think that the chute (or anything else) had froze at night…[Read more]

What time of day were you guys up there?

We left the truck at 7:45 (did you guys have the same rock slide blocking the road when you were there?) and got back at 2:30. Here’s a couple pics, sorry if the panaramic format screws up the page layout.

Great view from our turnaround point

    Nice shot of a skier

Sorry, you confused me when you said “I have already decided to build my own boards and have ordered material for 5 boards to experiment with” and you didn’t specify what kind of “gear” you wanted to buy.

Timing is everything this time of year.

Indeed. We made an attempt at the southeast coulour of Emigrant Peak on Saturday. The school bus-sized cornice, rock fall, and quickly deteriorating snow conditions turned us around at an elevation about midway up the coulour. We skied/rode the shoulder to the north of the couly,…[Read more]

That sounds really nice! How was stability overall? Dig any pits? Depth hoar? I’ve been hankering to get into the T Roots some time soon.
    Get any photos?

We didn’t dig any pits since we already decided to avoid steep lines (due to the obvious windloading and by the way the new snow was sliding off of the old surface on skin…[Read more]

We got one of the last powder days of the year at the Bell Lake Yurt this weekend. 10+ inches of fresh. Unfortunately wind loading and lots of natural sluffs kept us off of the steeper lines but the trees (Beetlejuice) were great until it got too warm. The new snow was NOT bonding to the sunbaked surface of the old snow and we were creating…[Read more]

Yeah, and I think they got rained on today. I have the Bell Lake Yurt reserved 2 weekends from now. We were worried about stability and where to find lower angled terrain if needed. Now I wonder if I should pack my swimsuit 🙁 . The Snotel data for the Tobaccos looks awefully similar to the Bridgers. Has anyone been out that way lately?

Yeah, pretty short runs in this area (probably 500 to 800 max vert) but the advantage is you don’t have to commit to one slope or aspect if the one you first had in mind turns out to suck. It may be a longer drive than Hyalite (I live in Bzn) but you also don’t have to skin as far. Sorry, I’ll post the photo but have otherwise been sworn to…[Read more]

I was riding in the vicinity of the Bacon Rind area this weekend. Totally different snowpack than around Bozeman. The conditions and aspects we encountered were too variable to waste time digging pits but…

Wow, did you you guys watch the video about the 2012/2013 Spark Edison interface? Maybe pucks as we know them are going to just go away with no need to refine their design.

I do agree with the poster who feels that a few grams weight savings aren’t worth a few $100s of new gear though. It’s kinda like in bike riding, you can spend tons of money…[Read more]

I guess I haven’t messed with my pucks since setting up my board so many years ago. Are they really that heavy? Every little bit counts but with the pucks being THE thing holding you to your board they don’t seem like the best place to shave what I’m assuming is a miniscule bit of weight.

Resort days at lost trail can be pretty rad, too.

Sounds like they have WAY more snow than Bridger or Big Sky this year too. Definately compare snow conditions before settling on Bozeman. I know lots of BB and BS season pass holders that are really really depre$$ed this season.
