SpeedyManiac replied to the topic Sorm vs. Zephyr – what's the difference? in the forum Venture 10 years, 4 months agoI got a Venture Zephyr 160 (26cm ww) this year and am stoked! Originally wanted the 164 but they were out of stock so I went with the 160, which is actually my shortest board with bindings. I’m 6’0″ and about 180lbs in street clothes, for reference. So far I’ve had zero float issues and am really stoked on the board. Seems to handle high speed…[Read more] SpeedyManiac replied to the topic BC Interior splitters ? in the forum Split Partners Wanted 10 years, 4 months agoI’m in Vernon and looking for split partners. SpeedyManiac replied to the topic what rights does "tenure" entitle the holder to in canada ? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 10 years, 4 months agoYou are correct on what most cat skiing operations have for tenures. I work at an operation and though we discourage it due to safety issues, it is public land and people are allowed access to it for recreational purposes (not conflicting commercial use). One thing to remember though is without the snowcat roads, sled access to many of the areas…[Read more] SpeedyManiac replied to the topic 2nd annual Canuck Splitfest presented by Prior in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 10 years, 4 months agoAwesome splitfest! Rolling out Friday after work, hopefully by 4.Also looking for people to tour with. I’m fairly keen, looking to log around 3000-5000 feet of vert in a day at a reasonable pace (not into running up the mountain). I actually ride a noboard everyday for work (I’m a photographer at a cat skiing operation). SpeedyManiac replied to the topic Noboarders are born… in the forum Noboarding & Nosplitting 12 years, 3 months agoDon’t knock it till you’ve tried it. I finally finished building my dream setup – split powder surfer. I’ve modified it so I can ride any conditions (including hardpack) without bindings. What are the advantages? Well, for starters I have zero foot pain. Also, not being strapped in I have the mobility of a skier at all times, with the joy of…[Read more] SpeedyManiac replied to the topic how do you carry in the forum Photo & Video 12 years, 5 months agoFor backcountry, I highly recommend using a toploading bag on a chest harness. Quick access to the camera is vital (IMHO) and this setup keeps the camera right at your finger tips. I have a Dakine Sequence but it rarely gets used for backcountry hiking. Might pick up another dakine backpack with back panel access then stuff the camera block in it. SpeedyManiac replied to the topic Coquihalla Pass Sunday or Saturday 5/6. SpeedyManiac replied to the topic TR: Big White Oct 23 2009 in the forum Trip Reports 12 years, 6 months agoChances are security can’t do anything about pre-season poaching. Most hills only own the base area and lift lines; it’s rare that they own the whole hill. I know this is the case at Red Mountain. So, usually they can’t do anything about you hiking up the hill.
