singlewhitecaveman replied to the topic Sorcerer's Lodge Jan 4-11 in the forum Trip Reports 8 years, 4 months ago

Awesome recap, Dan. I’ll dip back into this post for years to come.

Anyone thinking of a hut trip to BC should consider Sorcerer. The terrain is outta sight for splitboarding, a lot short approaches and plenty of vert, with varied terrain and epic some pillowed tree runs for down days. Plus, the lodge is cosy and has a wood-fired wet sauna.

    We d…[Read more]

This is terrible news. I only met Wade a few times but I was always jealous how much energy and commitment he brought with him. My deepest condolences go out to Wade’s family and friends.

singlewhitecaveman replied to the topic A Hug For Craig Kelly's mom in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 5 months ago

I was at a buddy’s dingy apartment in Montreal in the early 90s when someone put on Scream of Conciousness (?). Watching, specifically, Craig Kelly (and Brushie) killing it at Red Mt made me get a snowboard and spend a season in Rossland, BC. Where I’ve lived, my friends, my wife, my child, and almost everything else I considor important derive…[Read more]

I just got the black diamond dawn patrol pants. I love softshell pant,s at least for our climate here in Utah. Hopefully they work as good as they make my ass look.

I think you’re safe, they’re almost guaranteed to look better.

Let us all know how the pants work out. Hopefully you’ll judge them on more criteria than simply…[Read more]

You kooks and your long boards. No one needs longer than a 164-67 for an everyday board. Anything longer than that in anything other than 3 feet of fluff and you’re regressing.

WHAT IS THAT CHIMERA? And I want more specs. Taper?

No taper, we’ve left that to the Unicorn Chaser and Sceptre. The concept is for a super-stable, fast, p…[Read more]

Singlewhitecaveman, do you have any idea if that Chimera will become available to the buying public? That would be welcome addition to the quiver—and an interesting change of pace from my Unicorn Chaser.

We’re going to work on the width some more, and maybe have it for a late-season release. This has been in the works for several…[Read more]

The “board that needs to built” is a split board version of this:

Furburg created a new category, but they’re in many ways limited. This would push that envelope.

    Well , here’s one. 164cm, 11m radius, rocker-flat-rocker, and my secret weapon.

The Patagonia powslayer jacket is the best jacket I’ve ever had, by a country mile. Fits perfect in exactly the right spots (loose enough for beacon, skins, without being too airy), super light, waterproof, tough, a little longer, cinches and zippers work well and not so many pockets (phone, ipod, etc) that you feel like a goddamn drug mule. Oh,…[Read more]

    Sidewinders or Phantoms?

Phantoms, hands down. Personally, I think they’re a no-brainer over any binding system out there, hard or soft, but let’s not start that argument again.

Packraft chute? You didn’t flip a raft and lose ANOTHER ski, I hope?

singlewhitecaveman replied to the topic Scarpa Alien in the forum Boots 9 years, 1 month ago

Interesting, I was looking at this boot earlier in the year.

I definitely wouldn’t try riding with the boots open. Is there any opportunity to mod the boots to allow some forward-lean flexibility in ski mode? the ability to mod the TLT5s is part of at makes them a “standard” for many splitboarders.

Summersgone, PM Zak. He’s been using the ABS system for a while (currently with the Arva add-on), and i’m pretty sure either he, or a buddy of ours, or both, were able to get hold of a carbon canister. Zak’s tried a few iterations so he’s got some insight, I’m sure.

    Teletubbies wear capes?

Those bindings are an offense to my eyes (which, given the pants you’re wearing in that shot, is no light insult). Come around and pick up that set of demo Phantoms I’ve got!

Cutting down trees to promote a backcountry experience is kind of fucked up, but a few years from now I think you might see riders of this calibre becoming dedicated backcountry riders, maybe even splitboarders.
