Seems kind of dorky, but the fan works well for keeping the fog from building up. Not always 100%, but I’ve never had to take them off because I couldn’t see either.

I learned to snowboard at Pebble Creek. I think you will like it a lot.

    Thanks for the pics solo.

I do like it a lot, as I got to ride it a couple of years ago for a day.

Unfortunately, I had just arrived in Pocatello for a few days at the end of my US holiday that year, and on the first night staying at my friends house I found out…[Read more]

Apex is closest, But Big White, baldy, chrystal and silverstar are all with in an hour drive or so and more with in 2.5 hours from me as well. ski hills are great and all, but when you have some awesome back country in the area why not go there

Kirkwood is an awesome mountain with amazing side and bc options. There are regular buses from South Lake, not a problem at all.

Yes, awesome terrain at Kirkwood, but be aware of a few issues with the Kirkwood shuttle from South Lake:
    – It costs money (I think it was like $15)
    – There’s only one shuttle per day in and…

Is Reno the best place to fly into from Vancouver for Kirkwood?

Reno is definitely the closest airport. Not sure if it would be cheaper to fly into Sacramento or Oakland/SF and then bus it up to Tahoe.

Also need advice on getting from Kirkwood to LAX at the end of the trip, to fly back to Australia. Are there buses for this? Any…

    Hey Simon~

Not sure if you are heading north out of Pocatello/Pebble Creek Idaho, but Interstate 15 runs north to I-90, which then heads west through Missoula, Montana. If you are driving to Kicking Horse/Red Mountain you pretty much need to pass through here.

Drop me an email closer to trip time for any more info on…

Your trip sounds sweet. Can’t give you much advice on the BC/Utah portion of your trip here’s a bit on CA/NV. It’s hard to stay near Kirkwood on the cheap. The cheapest motel rooms in South Lake Tahoe are ~$50 a night and will be a 25 minute drive to K-Wood. It will not be a problem hooking up with sb.com members in Tahoe if…

Nice one Ray, thanks for the offer, I will take you up on that for sure!

My splitboarding friend here spent a year or more working near Revelstoke, and always goes on about how amazing Rogers Pass is.

I won’t be staying in the resorts, but will be looking for cheap motels in towns nearby.

No, the Mount Bogong/Cairn Gully chutes photos were taken on a solo recon mission I went on early last season, my first trip down there, and I didn’t have time to get over that side of the gully to ride it, unfortunately.

Yes, there isn’t very much in the way of steep big lines down here at all, definately not at the resorts, only a face or two at a couple of backcountry locations.

Yes, it’s a short season, with a small area of snow coverage, not much vertical, and with very crappy snow. Possibly comparable to East Coast US snow quality, from what I have read, but I am not sure as I have not been there.

Resort season is usually from first weekend in June through to the first weekend in October. Though it often opens on only…[Read more]

    Yes, diesel.

Engine is a Toyota 1HZ, 4.2 litre indirect injection diesel.

Have put a DTS aftermarket turbo kit onto it, makes it perform like a ‘normal’ car, it is a little sluggish without the turbo.

It has the campervan setup in the back, as is standard on these type of fibreglass high roof 70 series Landcruiser campervans that they call…[Read more]
