Throwing my 2cents in – I’ve got an ortovox pack, and it is the most comfortable thing I’ve ever put on my back! It’s a 22l and big enough for a day but not much more, and the spine protection is a bit of a bonus.

Agreed. Hakuba is the place. I’ve had the pleasure of going to hokkaido as well and for ease of access/variety of terrain the hakuba area – hell the Japanese alps in general are where you want to be.
You will still get the epic snow but with less storm days and its easier to get around the area to hunt out new terrain and snow.

I for one think that this is an awesome idea!

just as a side note, I was looking at getting a Solution myself, ended up with the Voile Womens Artisan.
Absolutely amazing board, super fun to ride, even in hard park / variable conditions and I’ve picked up skinning fairly easily, so I’m sure that means it’s pretty good on the uphill too!

Firstlight, if it makes you feel any better I plan on just taking it easy and working on technique rather than getting to caught up about getting into the back country, so your wife will have at least one person to play with!

Had some pretty nice conditions out the back of remarks this week, on the southern side anyway!
Still pretty sticky and spring-like on north facing, thanks to the wind and warm weather.

Best keep doing some snow dancing….
