  • I originally got my board in early October. It felt nice, but not as light weight as I had expected. Then Amplid reached out proactively to tell me that their first board run was out of spec due to a heavier-then-intended fiberglass used in the construction. I thought that was wonderful honestly and customer service. They offered to replace…[Read more]

  • I just had my first day on my new Amplid Miligram 168 last weekend. I’ve been waiting for more days and more conditions before putting up a review. But with one day under my belt I am amazed by this board, it is kinda exactly perfect for what I was looking for.

It’s much more flexy than a typical carbon board. Rather than using the same…[Read more]

  • 🙁 Sorry man – that is a bummer. I’m glad you’re still with us.

  • F*ck man. That’s such a bummer. I was really looking forward to bopping around the east side with you this spring. Sorry to hear the awful news. 🙁

  • @Cbalke – I’m pretty stoked on it so far, although I’m far from having mastered it. Most of the stock settings work well but I definitely want to customize some stuff for my purposes.

For example, the 11 frames per second is pretty outrageously fast but after letting up the trigger the camera freezes while the zillion buffered photos write to…[Read more]

  • I have 5 days on them, all in early season powder. But that includes a few pretty solid bootschwack adventures through rock, willows, etc. I love them… the only backcountry boots that I’ve ever not thought about because they are comfortable and have not held me back on anything yet. I have not had them on firm snow, so still waiting to see…[Read more]

  • @asamov – Sorry you are hating the Spark XVs. I’m loving mine, they are so comfortable for my foot! I guess it is different strokes for different folks.

  • To follow up, I found a solution that work great for me…

I’m using Adobe Lightroom, which is a kickass solution for post-processing photos. You can import photos from any directory, which worked great with all my old photos in various folder. It works great with both jpeg and RAW files. Then you can view, sort, delete, crop, and edit photos…[Read more]

  • Happy Birthday Buffy!! So much fun riding with everybody on actual powder snow. I’m so glad you could make it up for some traditional early season turns, Tex & Imitation Funk. Thanks as always for guiding us to the best freshies, Buffy! Ray, no mention of the most excellent bootschwak experience that we gave Buffy for her birthday?

  • @HansGLudwig – In this case we hard charged down the wrong gully and ended up on a Southern aspect rather than the Eastern aspect that would lead to our car so we had the distinct pleasure of putting in a contouring bootschwack over varied terrain including deep and shallow snow, rocks, trees, fallen logs, and willows. I will say that in this…[Read more]

  • So I compared the 2015/2016 Spark XVS to an older pair, sized smaller, belonging to Imitation Funk. Hmmm.. I guess these are in the same vicinity of bulkiness.

On the other hand, I had the opportunity to do a long splitboot journey with TEX and liketoride on Sunday, and found them to be solid, comfortable performers.

  • I would like to congratulate you on truly the king of all dancing banana icons. That was some sweetness. The other pictures, with the snow and stuff, were very nice too.

Edit to add… just saw the backcountry cover…

  • Dear people who are really into photography,

What kind of cloud-based storage solutions do you use? I would love to have a system for storing/categorizing/backing up/publishing photos. It would be nice to store RAW files privately and publish selected prints publically. What do you guys use?

  • I just bought a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera and I’m really stoked to try it out this season.

The feature that sold me on it is fast tracking continuous autofocus. There are nice demos of it in action on youtube. Basically, you can select a target and the camera will track it even if the target disappears behind a tree or in a group of…[Read more]

  • I like to carry a 18-200 super zoom, because I love to get everything from panoramas to tight shots of people ripping and I will only carry one lense with me.

I modified a neoprene sling-type cover (zing) to hang off my pack’s chest strap which gave me quick, easy access to the camera without digging in my pack.

Finally, I like to use a circular…[Read more]
