I am interested in other opinions for board options. But I’m hoping to find a shortish (156-158). widish (over 25.5 so there is enough widths still after the cut) cambered board with good grip (which is why i was considering magnetraction) and on the stiffer side but still fun for a bit of mountain freestyle. And hopefully with a core that doesn’t…[Read more]

I’ve read a few of the posts on the krypto and would definitely consider that if I end up going to Japan again but they don’t do a shorter size in the wide version – I think 25.2cm (what i can find for the waist width of the 156) is too narrow for me after cutting in half. But the core construction looks similar to the templar (no kevlar/basalt…[Read more]

Hello. I’m starting to consider a new diy short-board for days without any new stuff around, and some of the all mountain rossignol boards have my attention. They have shorter sizes with wide models, are rated on the stiffer side, cambered center with rocker tip/tail, and and have various levels of magnetraction because it gets crusty in new…[Read more]

I have size 10 boots and went through the same decision as you, I ultimately chose a 26 waist (Zephyr 160).
Generally my board waist choice is mid 25.5ish, but I’ve ridden wide boards before for pow so I knew I could throw it around if it turned out wider than ideal. But I don’t really feel like I’m throwing it around, I don’t notice it as a wide…[Read more]

Rode the Thunder 162 in-bounds today. About 1/2″ new snow but mostly icy groomers. Very squiggly at low speeds, started feeling more stable as speed picked up. Quick to turn in bumps, probably quick to turn in trees as well. Held well on steeper thin-pack/ice. Felt flimsy though.
I think I need to adjust my pucks so the…

for what it’s worth, my friend is about your size (same height, maybe a tad lighter) and has the Prior AMF in 159. He really likes it’s freestyle ride, but he thinks it doesn’t give him quite enough float for full on powder (his experience with pow was japan) and thinks it’s because it has mostly camber and just a bit of rocker. i’ve never ridden…[Read more]

this is a bit of an investment, and sounds close to a “know thy tent neighbor very well” 1.5 person kind of tent, but I think it looks pretty cool for winter expeditions and keeping weight down.
I only found out about this tent when I saw one for sale, can’t remember if it was…[Read more]

The Orb looks interesting but I wasn’t sure if it was in the type of camber profile the OP was after. I can’t tell if it is a flat dual camber and then rocker tips (like a dual-camrock) or the same sort of design as the voile artisan, where it’s rockered overall from the flat central section (like a variation of lib’s c2 or never summer…[Read more]

ummm I don’t see all that much difference in wasit widths between the 159 and 162 AMFs (25.3 and 25.5cm) and 160 mountain twin (25.6cm), and that’s the waist range I’m always after with my size 10 boots.
like I wrote before, I don’t know firsthand but I’ve read the camber profile of the Jones Mountain Twin seems more rocker overall than a what I…[Read more]

t-nuts
ptex discs if you use them
rivets for tip clipspossible:
locknuts for the chinese hooks (i would definitely reuse them if they have only been tightened on once, after that i guess it depends how threaded they have become)
the screws for the chinese hooks should be fine, but could be messy if you sealed the holes with epoxy or…[Read more]ruapehu_explorer replied to the topic Splitboard & camber/flat/rocker profile help in the forum Splitboards 10 years, 2 months ago
i doubt the jones mt twin is 20cm set back, that would be quite a lot. that’s nearly 8 inches… (the Never Summer Summit powder split is set back 1.625 inches). I think that number is either in mm (so 2cm) or completely wrong and backcountry.com’s info might be correct. either way, aside from the setback it might or might not have it has a mostly…[Read more]

to make things more difficult there’s also the jones mt twin to consider. no experience with it whatsoever but it looks fun. it’s supposed to be camrock but a lot of owners say jones boards look more rocker throughout than having much central camber.
for ‘cheapest’ you’ll probably find that being the k2 panoramic. 154 is probably too small for…[Read more]

My experiences with the never summer RC profile (same overall idea as lib’s c2 profile) have been good for float, but with twin models you don’t get the added benefit of a lot of setback or taper for extra flotation. I kind of agree with the seesaw description to an extent, I think it’s a really fun design but like provotrout said you ride it…[Read more]

i would take the never summer summit off your list. it’s quite directional/freeride, with a fair amount of taper and setback.
the rest of the boards would most likely work for what you want. as far as camber styles and skinning grip, boards with flat (k2, venture) and cambered in the center theoretically have better skinning grip but i think…[Read more]

ruapehu_explorer replied to the topic K2 Panoramic – Setup Questions in the forum Splitboards 10 years, 3 months ago
i think if the board has even nose and tail lengths, having a stance setback 1″ should move the stance 1″ back from center, and would take 1″ off the tail and add 1″ to the nose and give a 2″ difference.
setback (at least with prior’s explanation of their geometry) doesn’t count the difference in nose/tail lengths (such as long powder nose boards…[Read more]

The magneto binding on the channel system looks pretty awesome, hopefully it’s just the disks that are redesigned and the channel width is the same as insert width for more compatibility (using your own bindings on the boards or the magneto bindings on your own board)
