Went there yesterday and the east facing snow above 12,500 is pretty scary. About a foot and a half of wet, unconsolidated snow, waiting to slide.i saw the sign of a large wet slide out of one of the couloirs. Was that yours?

Incredible. Great pictures, and the wildness of the place, combined with the altitude. Makes the sierras easy and so much less committing.

YOu guys hit it perfectly. And as always, bgnight, great pictures.
My wife and I went to ski the Emerson n couloir on thursday.
We thankfully followed your boot track and put our skis on at the rocks about 30 feet below the top. The upper third of the couloir had a nasty icy crust, which will become relevant shortly. My wife went first and skied…[Read more]

Just buck up like everyone else and put one foot in front of the other and you will stay out of jail and your wallet will still have cash in it

Actually, not bad advice. I was just looking for a shortcut.

rod9301 replied to the topic ATV's on snow? in the forum Trip Reports 13 years, 2 months ago

I probably wasn’t clear. I am not thinking of using an ATV in powder, but on the hard spring snow that you find on roads in late April and May.
For exampl, I skied Brewer creek a couple of weeks ago, and there was a 100 foot patch of snow where my Yukon almost got stuck. I ended up camping there (6,000 ft) and walking in the morning on mostly dry…[Read more]

Jim, the refrozen snow at the bottom of Liberty, do you think it would’ve been softer earlier in the day?

rod9301 replied to the topic jimw hasn't "plateaued" yet! in the forum Trip Reports 13 years, 4 months ago

Great job, Jim. You’ve been hitting it this year. Haven’t made it to the East side yet, but intend to fix this tomorrow.

Try the Omega Pacific belay device. http://www.omegapac.com/op_products_sbgii.html

I used it to rap on 7mm ropes, and belay on 10.8 when rock climbing. Can’t say enough good things about it.

    Thanks, BCD.

Jimw, good to see your face. How have you been?

On my side, my wife, Shelly is pregnant, due in June. Kid was conceived in the back of the truck in Tuolomne. We were climbing there and in the Yosemite Valley for 6 weeks, and what do you know!
