I think the new format blows. It probably has the most wasted screen real estate of all the message boards I visit, and the navigation of the forums is awful. I had a list of gripes but I don’t care enough to type them in here. This is my first visit back in about 3 weeks and I used to check in pretty much daily before the switch. I need to try to…[Read more]

Soooo…. I know you’re busy, but when you get the ‘recent posts’ plugin working, could you post the link here? This is the only thread I have the energy to find on this site these days without my beloved lazy man’s aggregation link. Very sad. 🙁

Neato. So are we supposed to pick one and you will add that functionality to the boards? At this point pretty much anything will do as a starter. How about this one?

Where is the ‘recent posts’ link? I like a quick recap of all the new forum stuff that’s been posted on one page. There is no way I’m clicking through all the sub boards to see the range of recent contributions. Every other message board I use has this feature.
And yeah, the side bar needs to die.
Thanks!

Jeeze. Keep posting beta. We’ll be down in Tahoe from Dec 14-27, and I’d love to know what great to bring: powder boards, or rock boards, or hiking boots… or flip flops & shorts.

Fitwell’s Mondo sizing is very different from any other Mondo sizing that I know of. I would go off of their chart as their Mondo sizing runs really small.
Just for reference… I’m usually a size 12US and my Fitwell BC size 305 mondo fit perfectly.

This really annoyed me. Mondo should be Mondo. Fitwell has no more prerogative…[Read more]

Barrows,
I appreciate your contributions to this forum from the bottom of my splitter heart but you’re starting to remind me of the Mrs in this thread. She always has to get the last word too. 🙂
Let it go brother. It is what it is.

Cool. I’m totally digging the Revelatory BC fish scales. I don’t know if we have enough low angle approaches or egresses to justify one, but there have been a few times where that would have been lovely, like when I crossed Kodiak Island.

I’ve had a MH Ghost Whisperer hooded jacket on a few trips this summer, but only got it wet once. The down got a little matted down and it definitely lost some loft, but it didn’t turn into a mushy wad, and wearing it under a shell got it to dry surprisingly fast and regain all its loft. I also have a MH Mountain Speed 32 sleeping bag that has…[Read more]

How does the light weight MH pack holdup? I fondled one in their showroom but questioned how well it would last.
Not so hot. I have a few HMG packs. They are fine for basic backpacking and hiking, but not so good around sharp or pokey stuff like steel edges, crampons, and busting brush. The main body is 50d cuben and the bottom is…[Read more]

Thanks for all the very kind feedback. I’m glad you guys were entertained. 😀
Here’s the scoop on the carry. My pack has a vertical daisy chain along each side of the pack body. This is pretty unusual, but it would be pretty easy to add one on most packs if you have some webbing and a decent sewing machine. The daisy chain needs to be about…[Read more]

Totally worth it. We use our Spark binding crampons regularly. Morning refreeze is a breeze. Side hilling on crust is way easier as you can be lazy about edging.

I agree, totally brilliant vid and the route was done in grand style. I’m also pretty blown away by your tiny pack. I go pretty light but still seem to bulk out anything under 50 liters. Hmmm…
Great job. :headbang:

It was about 60 miles and roughly 23k feet of vert, if google earth is to be believed. The ironic thing about ski touring (if you are in pure travel mode, as I was) is that you try to change elevation as little as possible. I was not looking for long or interesting runs, I was trying to have to avoid serious climbs to save energy for grinding…[Read more]
