OldMan replied to the topic Meet Farmer John in the forum Trip Reports 14 years, 3 months ago Wonderful story. Sometimes the most memorable trips into the BC aren’t about how much powder there was or how large of a rock you dropped. RESPECT!!!!! OldMan replied to the topic What the heck is a boardski? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 14 years, 3 months ago Well…I guess to each his own…I don’t think he was going for a lightweight setup…But it’s cool to see people create new things. So many failures before you get a success when it comes to R&D. I got a splitboard after going so many years with ascension skis so I wouldn’t have to carry big bulky stuff on my back. Plus, with a little practice…[Read more] OldMan replied to the topic Berthoud Avalanche in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 14 years, 3 months ago Here’s a picture taken at sunrise looking towards where the slide released a few hours later. (Far left) Here’s a picture of the wind howling above the east side of the pass (Mines Peak)…Note: This is the area where the snowboarder was killed Nov 05 (Mines Peak 1). That really *sucked*. I second that! After sitting through the traffic jam in Silverthorne, I couldn’t bear sitting in traffic going up to the tunnel so I decided to go up and over Loveland Pass. The traffic jam on the other side started before the Sisters’ slide…[Read more] OldMan replied to the topic CO Splitters *Please Read* in the forum Split Partners Wanted 14 years, 3 months ago @IRidePow wrote: Berthoud did not sound too promising over on a TGR thread. http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72655 Or maybe Ireallyliketoski is just trying to keep it all to himself. Sometimes (every couple of years) you have to pull the locking mechanism out and expand the plastic by screwing it in all the way but other than that I haven’t seen a need to get a new set of poles. I think I’m the oddball on this forum, but I prefer twist-lock to…[Read more] OldMan replied to the topic Colorado early season in the forum Split Partners Wanted 14 years, 4 months ago Fortysix&2 and I went with a couple of 2-plankers up Mayfield Gulch (I think that was the name of it) on the westside of the 10-mi range on Sunday. The skin in was easy…the snow was okay on the ridge (really tracked out and somewhat breakable crust) but the trees were a lot of fun. It looks like it might be a good place to do a traverse of the…[Read more] OldMan replied to the topic Colorado early season in the forum Split Partners Wanted 14 years, 6 months ago I know someone must have gone up this weekend (fortysix&2)…Where’s the pics for those of us that couldn’t make it? I’m anxious to see if we pick up the 1-1.5ft mid week like they’re predicting. OldMan replied to the topic SPARE T-NUTS in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 15 years, 1 month ago I ordered way too many a couple of months back. I’ve got probably a couple dozen extra. OldMan replied to the topic A new reason to bring your dog into the backcountry in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 15 years, 2 months ago If every land user were to make small contributions and compromise thier positions in minor ways, there is no doubt we could have healthy wildlife populations. Does a skin track not make ingress/egress easier for predator/prey? If not, why not? Have you ever gone back to your previous skin track…[Read more] OldMan replied to the topic The Flats… why I gave up snowboarding!! in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 15 years, 2 months ago No damage to the touring brackets but you have to occasionally take out the slop at the pivot point by bending the sides of the touring bracket to hold the plate tighter. I ride on mtn plates with snowboard hard boots. OldMan replied to the topic The Flats… why I gave up snowboarding!! in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 15 years, 2 months ago I ski my splitboard about as much as I ride it even though I’ve got two pair of tele skis sitting at home. People ask me why I don’t just bring tele gear instead and the response is always “because I like to make the decision to board or ski at the top of the hill, not at home.” You never know what the snow will be like until you’re there so why…[Read more] OldMan replied to the topic Which side out when skinning? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 15 years, 2 months ago Also, having the curved side in eliminates the possibility of catching the hardware as the skis pass each other. If you ever try skiing in skinning mode, you’ll definitely want the curved edges on the inside for carving turns.
