And the little clip of Charlet riding the mellow pow run with the hits – one of my favourite runs! Perfect pitch – turn for fun, not to control your speed, enough pitch that you can just point for all the hits and the drops and the banks and slashes you want, don’t have to worry about messing up your line or not having enough…

Bit of a funny thread. Just depends on what turns you on and what you want to be better at. What do you want to be better at?
If you watch clips of Terje or Nico Muller and an effortless method or backside 3 off an interesting transition sends a shiver up your spine and makes you think “God! I want to be able to do that, how…

Nice day out!
What you make of the Zephyr?
Summersgone loves his Zephyr, but it was not for me. I think it is because the board I ride now is a heavily tapered board (2007 160 Lib Mullet with ~3/4″ or 19mm of taper ). It just felt squirrely to me. I like to go fast and straight, but by no means that great of a rider, just what I…[Read more]

Plastic shovels were also not studied since they usually break in cold temperatures and hard debris before the first buried subject can be excavated.
This seems to be a remarkably punchy statement, given the number of plastic shovels on the market.
Would e.g. Ortovox really continue to sell a product that ‘usually breaks’ in the…

Just read that test. My question seems a bit irrelevant now! There are clearly plenty of sub-standard shovels out there. I would like to have seen just how much beef they were giving them, though.
Well that’s just it. They say that improper use of pretty much any shovel out there will break it. In the German test I believe…[Read more]

Staying above the trees? That means you’re missing out on lots of fun!
Anyhow: I’m in Oslo. PM me if you want to try my 162 AMF sometime.
I just bought a Prior Spearhead 172, and live in Oslo. I also stay in Hemsedal a lot, so a demo might not be out of the question. That is if you want to try a longer board before…

Cool, sounds good! I’ll give it a go for sure. Sounds better than using the path tool, noting distance, top and bottom altitude and using the trigonometry functions in excel!
Wow man. You really do all this? I just compare it to this after I get the “grade” from NG Topo and voila, though thats probably no different then you…[Read more]

Did you have the Marinelli in mind at all? I guess it’s been pretty dry and thin in there this year?
No, we didn’t consider it yet. The M. Couloir might be something to approach in some years — pretty tight stuff, afaik. (“longest ice wall in the alps” or something like that is in my mind…)

Unfortunately it doesn’t help for when I have to separate them when I arrive at the trailhead.
You could skin up before you leave the house? Easier to separate when they’re that wee bit warmer.
For some reason, mine seem more difficult and tacky when they are warm. I think I’ll try to recondition them with the parchment paper…[Read more]

The “JJ rides heavy shit on one, so it must be good” argument isn’t totally logical either.
Since I was the one to present a variation of this argument I feel compelled to point out that I never said this. I merely said that I don’t see ripper boarders, or hear them…talking about not doing a line because they don’t have a solid…[Read more]

And 18 days in vapor barrier socks sounds a bit trench footy.
Caveat, I haven’t read every post in this thread meticulously.
I wore a VB sock every day in AK for 19 straight days. Minimal worry of trench foot if you take good precautions.
I alternated 3 pairs of polypro liners under the VB and then a heavy wool sock over.…[Read more]

And I don’t know where whistlermaverick was coming from with the “all boards look like twin tips” comment, but I think he has a point (it might not be the same as the one he was trying to make though!)

Why don’t more people ride or at least consider the Prior Pow Stick? 10.6m radius, rocker, stiffish flex, awesome powderirity… I doubt it’s the lack of switch options, and with the long sidecut, taper and short tail it should be good on icier steeps too. Good skinning with plenty of float, carves like a demon, smooths out…

extra spanner in the works is that the girlfriend might be out of a job in 2 weeks, so my fun funds could be diverted to boring things like her share of the rent.
