Had recently had a harrowing experience kicking steps into horrible wind-slab above a bunch of rocks and was really frustrated how easy it was for my skier. So I went into MEC and was walking around in these and the TLT6’s, and these were the last pair in my size and they felt really…[Read more] Matt a.d. replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 6 years, 5 months agoHow the hell do you adjust the forward lean? I’ve spend hours staring at the boots trying to figure it out. 🙁 Matt a.d. replied to the topic Venture Storm vs. Jones Solution or others? in the forum Splitboards 7 years, 8 months agoI had a Storm and then a Zephyr and both were amazing boards. Then I went to a Lib Tech and hated it, so I sold it and went to a Solution. The Solution is decent, but a not built to last, and is a little too stiff and light for my liking. If you want a board that you can feel every little bump on, get the Solution, if you want a board that is…[Read more] Matt a.d. replied to the topic Treepilot Gone…but not forgotten in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 4 months ago@russman wrote:I remember talking with him about his mission to do fifty 5,000 foot days in a season, and that he was closing in and only a few days away from the goal. We would get back from some tour and he’d be 150 ft. short of his daily “quota” and so be…[Read more] Matt a.d. replied to the topic Why Can't I Skate Ski? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 4 months agoThere’s a zone around my home turf that is accessed by about 2 km of biathlon track so I actually skate the split fairly regularly. It’s not pretty, but once you get the hang of it, you can get a pretty decent clip going. My advice would be to do up your boots, max out the length of your poles and get low. Instead of trying to make long strides by…[Read more] Matt a.d. replied to the topic Canuck Splitfest 4 presented by Prior in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 6 months agoMajor snowfall as we speak. Road’s closed west of Revy last I heard and the conditions have gone into the red. It’s been a really sketchy start to the season up here and we’ve had lots of incidents and a death already. Be careful out there folks. Matt a.d. replied to the topic Waxless Base Splitboard in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 6 months agoJust learn to skate the split. It’s really not that hard if you do your boots up tight. You will definitely bail hilariously in front of your friends the first… 20 or 30 times you try it, but it will at least lighten the mood of those long slogs back to the truck. Matt a.d. replied to the topic Touring Near Canmore suggestions in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 9 years, 5 months agoBlack Prince is closed because a bear is sleeping on the skin track. Tryst lake is decent until about 10 o’ clock on a powder day when the Black Prince crowd shows up. If you really like cross-country splitboarding you could go to Burstall pass. Chester lake has a big long flat snowshoe trail that leads up to a lake where you can either ride flat…[Read more] Matt a.d. replied to the topic Keeping up with skiers in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 9 years, 5 months ago@Zude wrote:pooping is criticalEasily the most important recommendation in this entire thread.Honestly, just get out more. You’ll get more efficient at everything and the extra two minutes it might take to transition won’t even matter. Pow when it’s deep and gnar when it’s stable. The rest of the time I just f*ck around and hit mini-golf lines with fun little features. Matt a.d. replied to the topic Burton Nug Raduction – Latest Marketing Buzzword? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 9 years, 9 months agoIt sounds like it might be a decent board for couloirs or buttering around in flat gay pow, but there’s no way I’d make it my main board. Matt a.d. replied to the topic Karakoram Climbing Wire Options? in the forum Bindings 10 years, 5 months agoThese worked pretty good for about 4000 vertical feet the other day. Much better than the OG Voile single-wire risers I started the day with.Future iterations will likely need to add a notch in the piece of stick so the strap doesn’t slide off the sides. Some ideas were also tossed around about trying to find an oblong-shaped branch that could…[Read more] Matt a.d. replied to the topic Advice: Malamutes vs. F-series in the forum Boots 11 years, 3 months agoI just went through this same scenario and ended up getting the Malamutes.F-series shave length by making the liner non-removable. So, if your doing multi-day stuff, drying could be an issue.Something to be wary of with Solomon is that their sizing is euro so buying boots without trying them on is a bad idea. I’m in Canada and placed my Jones order in August and still no board. I can’t even get them to reply to my emails (hence the rant). Matt a.d. replied to the topic My curmudgeonly thoughts on hardboots in the forum Boots 11 years, 8 months agoFine. But, my point was that for riders like me, whom I would argue are the majority (in comparison to those riding hardboots), nobody is “[limiting] equipment progress for our sport.” In fact, quite the opposite (see split-specific binding companies X and Y). The sport is just moving in a direction that you don’t like, but I do. Matt a.d. replied to the topic My curmudgeonly thoughts on hardboots in the forum Boots 11 years, 8 months agop.s.
