  • Hi!

Ive been bouncing back and forth between my Atomics and TLT6s and while i like the softer lateral movement of the Backlands i’ve found that the forward flex is also a bit soft, even with the green springs, as some folks here have mentioned… @lernr … i realize that different versions of the boots won’t have this solution but i just put the…[Read more]

  • Just to follow up…
i’d bent the shafts on the original set of link levers, so i was back on my dynafits while i waited for the new levers… John says that the new ones have a stronger steel that’s also heat treated, so 5-6x stronger. i beat up the old ones pounding out hardpacked landings at the resort… i probably won’t stop doing that so…[Read more]

  • heres my take on the best mod for the lower buckle, using the Phantom Mod Kit and a plastic strap pillaged from another pair of TLTs (its the same strap from the other side of the same buckle). You can also source that strap from Dynafit dealers. I left the other (medial) side in its stock position instead of bringing it back to the cuff pivot…[Read more]

  • I recently had the pleasure of a visit from my favourite space craft engineer, aka Phantom Splitboard Bindings, who showed me how easy it is to set up the Atomic Backlands for snowboarding, with a huge upgrade provided by his Link lever for ride mode.

I’ve been riding in AT boots for the past dozen or so years, most recently (~5 years) i’ve bee…[Read more]

  • got any photos of your swallow @Snurfer ??
    cambered profile?
Do you ever come up to Canuckistan??

  • @moridinbg yah right i remember now they didn’t make a wide (X) version of the Summit, that was the main reason i didn’t try it… i like wide boards… (big feet)

im not trying to convince you to get on this board, it’s great to have a variety of opinions and preferences on a review, but i do see the features quite differently, so i will point…[Read more]

  • NS now has 3 versions of CRC: the original RC, Ripsaw RC and Fusion RC
for touring / edging i think Ripsaw is best, then Fusion, then original (maybe its why they’re not using the original RC for splits anymore)
for powder, Fusion > original > Ripsaw

@moridinbg was it bad on traverses b/c it was more rockered or bc it was wider? how wide are…[Read more]

  • the converse of this can be a + on the slow shoe side, if your terrain is conducive to going straight up, it doesn’t have much traversing, then slow shoes could be a reasonable option. I’d go with Verts or BillyGoat Plates as @Scooby2 suggested.
Also if your partners are touring / skinning / splitting then for you on slow shoes your route may be…[Read more]

@David yah i hear ya. theres a couple issues at play there….

first, it seems like a common perception that CRC generally has less grip on the uptrack, but I’m not sure that’s true. Like you said, “you’re concentrating all your weight right on the touring bracket… (on) top of the rocker”. I agree your weight is less distributed but I’m not…[Read more]

    Hi!
I’ve recently been riding a Never Summer Swift 167X Splitboard, they just started producing the Swift as a split this season so i thought i’d share my thoughts on it. You can find reviews of the solid version out on the interwebs, in my experience with NS snowboards the splits ride pretty similar to the solid decks, though it looks like in…[Read more]

the hole is about 1/2″ (13mm) wide

“harder to get the toe edge” ?? if you mean initiating a turn onto your toe side, you might need to increase the fwd lean, esp on your back foot

“affecting toe edge hold” … if thats your whole problem, you might want to use the tongues. they come with a stiff tongue now but you can soften them up with holes…[Read more]

  • i have a pair of pomoca skins from a few years back, not the free but the mohair version.
They’re light, which is nice, but it seems like a significant part of the weight reduction is a very light application of glue. I reglued them after a season and when i went to scrape off the old glue there was nothing to come off.

Im not sure if theres much…[Read more]

  • you mean you rip shred all day and don’t take a few 5-10 min breaks??

i shouldn’t speak for @whistlermaverick cuz i can’t remember exactly how he works it (i was taking 4:20 min breaks for his 5-10 mins)… but when i take my stove i also take a 500mL wide mouth bottle… then ya don’t have to fire up the stove every time ya drink.
    And it helps…[Read more]

  • i dunno why you’d boil and cool water?? Jamie just melts snow!!
you do have snow where you go snowboarding, no??
takes about 5-10 mins and he has plenty of water to offer his partners, which is nice.
you just gotta make sure you replenish your electrolytes, snow is pure

light is right for sure, as long as performance and durability are covered.

  • hi @boardinthepark !!

i haven’t had time to install the boot mod kit yet… my boots are pretty well hacked up already, its just the rivet / buckle switch i need to do, i’m expecting that will make the buckle perform same same as the one on my One boots, which i like a lot.
i’ve been digging the K2 liners.

are you on the stock liners?? it sounds…[Read more]

  • yah i use phantoms on all my set ups, all the time.
folks on the lifts find it curious.

the boot shells should be good for 5 years or more, but you might have to replace the liners once or twice, still thats cheaper than a pair of soft boots. The plastic shells get better with age, IMO, they soften up, tho i don’t expect they will ever get too…[Read more]

  • i think you’re missing 2 things Schwalbster…

F=ma, less weight is more acceleration with the same force… lighter is faster, definitely!

and sure yah fitness for sure but otherwise you are pretty focussed on weight, there is a lot that ski shape, pivot point and mohair can do for you, that’s efficiency, less friction in the system, less…[Read more]
