Scooby’s stuff is very cool, esp. in person. Mere mortals? I’d take a 200 Tanker(rockered) to AK, or my 192 Tanker most anywhere else.

Bomber splitboard bindings come with a wider bail set for the toe. You can order the wider bail option for the TD series binding as an option. My Dynafit boots fit fine with them.

Look for a Burton Chopper 95, smallest stick I’ve seen. My 16 y.o. won’t part with her’s, too much sentimental value! Her’s is complete with Burton bindings and Airwalk mini freeride boots, size 12.

Been almost 2 months since I’ve been on here, look at what I miss. What route are you all thinking on? Stuff on the Ski area side are real mountaineering stuff, nice descent lines. I might be in, if my butt is back in shape then! Anyone wanna sledneck some stuff on the…[Read more]

Jon Dahl replied to the topic Cutting taper into a DIY split? in the forum DIY and Mods 13 years, 3 months ago

Also done it. Made a table to clamp the board in, ripped it down the middle, clamped one half in the table, ripped the taper in it, repeat for other half. Sanded edges to meet up smoothly, finish job. Easy peasy…

I remember seeing a couloir specific board on Boheme’s website before they went down, then came up again as Phenix.

It was called the tonal; 152cm, 5 cm tip and tail, and 19m sidecut!

(can’t add any more to the posts above about rocker)

Note the sidecut of that bad boy, 19! No problem with edge in the ice there. “Modern”…[Read more]

When I saw the title and the name, I was a bit worried that you cut up that Rad-Air LSD I sold ya! Wood is good, though. Nice mods, I’d like to talk to you about some pucks myself, for my next project, later this winter, when I find the next victim! PM me, thanks, Jon

 Oh yeah, baby, HB’s on the 119! If I keep on riding it, I’ll have to figure out something, uh, different. Need super lite for summer corn turns. Also, I am back, after 15 years, in auto shop management. I’d forgotten what those 10-11 hour days were like! I’m hoping it pays off for me in the long run. If not, I’ll have to figure out how to…[Read more]

Just turned 52 this Tuesday, it’s all about mindset, not age. Officially rode my shortest board yet, the 119 Rossi Mini this spring/summer. Kinda fun, too! Not all my milestones this season are fun ones. Moved my mom in with me this summer, she’s battling stage 2 cancer. Humbling to see how my wife has worked with her, just amazing! Tenacity is…[Read more]

Jon Dahl replied to the topic WTF? Is everything rockered these days? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 13 years, 6 months ago

A few thoughts on rocker, from a big board perspective. I’ve been on a 192 Rad-Air Tanker for a few years now. Std. camber, 10.5 sidecut. Nice board on-piste, or on big open faces where you can really let it run. Good in pow, up to a few feet deep, in/outta bounds. I was able to test ride a pre-production ’10 year model 200 Tanker in February.…[Read more]

Fine boots…for carving. Too heavy for the splitboard, unless you like 5+ lbs per foot! I liked my 123″s for riding, even for splitting. Sucked for hiking. My $.02

Jon Dahl replied to the topic considering going to hardboots, what about the stance? in the forum Boots 13 years, 7 months ago

That is a loaded question. Stance angles vary so much depending on too many factors to just say do this. My personal setup on my split is 38f/30r front foot flat and rear foot has cant/lift. On other boards I ride as little as 5 degrees split or 15 degrees different, depending on what and where I’m riding. A few guys here ride duck with A/T boots.…[Read more]

I am currently using a Cassin Dragonfly (9 oz. and discontinued) 50cm as a self-arrest tool only. Straight shaft, all aluminum. Useful for soft to harder snow, nothing else. Also have a BD Black Prophet 50 cm, useful for those scary places I shouldn’t be but end up in. Straight shaft also. Notice a trend? Good for plunging into the snow, boot-axe…[Read more]

Another Tanker rider? You got the full size 200? Things fast as hell huh?

Out here we have too many close trees to ride the 200 BC so I’m not splitting mine. IF you do – post it cause I’d love to see it. Maybe if I had a second one I would but I’d rather the Burt Pro as a factory split….[/quote]

Mtnman, I’m 5’7″/160 lbs…but I have a lot of “carve” in my background. At my age, my objectives are usually short/steep, or longer more gradual mountain approaches. Not a lot of jib left in me, still, I’ll ollie off of stuff when I can.
