Yes, I tried them in 2010. I had to leave them in walk mode and loosley buckled. Most importantly, cannot correct forward motion differential between front and rear foot, and not enough lateral flex.

  • Is the tour heel adapter longer then Sparks?

  • John replied to the topic La Sportiva Sideral Boots in the forum Boots 7 years, 11 months ago

    Modded my Siderals as follows;
Front Boot: increased provided Mid lock plate slot length to top.
Rear Boot: used provided Forward lock plate and 2 cuff spoilers.
    No Cuff straps.

Feels like my soft boots in terms of forward lean, but with more precision and much lighter weight. Adjusted to feel like my soft boot’s and binding’s lean setup.

  • Matt,
My K2 has been my favorite. May send it to Sick Splits.
I have liked the feel of cambered boards the best, going back 20+ years.
Keeping 2 rockered boards to retest this Fall.

  • Well, I spent the last week digging out old gear, adjusting and modifying everything.
I will have at least four boards of varying shapes and rockers to dial in and figure out my preferences this Fall.
I am going to retry the Prior 172 BC Split Hybrid Rocker with a new boot and binding setup.

Just trying to re-summarise and organize my thoughts for next season.

  • John replied to the topic Sidewinders or Phantoms? in the forum Bindings 8 years ago

I’ll try both, yes the sidewinders are heavy, but they are in the pack uphill.

Powder Rider, I’ll le you know this fall if I am going to part with the sidewinders.

  • John replied to the topic La Sportiva Sideral Boots in the forum Boots 8 years ago

Now that I have had some time to look at the Sideral,
it has a number of features I like; short BSL, easily modifiable lean, easy one lever lean lean/lock, and shorter medial cuff.
    Oh, and a neutral lower.

    Barrows,
Great looking couloir! How high is the summit? I have skied a number of Colorado’s Elks 14ers, and some Cascade Volcanoes. I would like to add some bigger snowboard descents in the Elks to the list. Some of the lines I have ridden in Antartica were no-fall lines. I usually ride these with an Ice Axe.

My Prior BC was made in ’09. I don’t…[Read more]

    Barrows,
I have given some thought to your comments. My past boards have been full camber. My favorite skis are full camber, especially in the steeps. Tip dive is not an issue. Wheelie-ing in chunder is.

Do you think a board without tail rocker is better in steep technical terrain?

  • John replied to the topic Which Board in the forum Splitboards 8 years ago

    Barrows,
I am also 6’1″ and 165lbs. I have 3 172 length boards I love to ride in powder, and a Prior 168 AMF I ride on resort conditions. After spending time in some time in the Cordillera Mountains and over a month in Antartica with my Prior 172 BC, I realized it was not the right board. Being the only boarder, I was not able to get much feedback…[Read more]

  • John replied to the topic La Sportiva Sideral Boots in the forum Boots 8 years ago

Just recieved a pair of LaSportiva Siderals. I am impressd wih the simplicity of the boot. It has a neutral stance, something my body type reqires.

For split board boots the overall BSL is shorter then most others, a good thing.
The lean lock mechanism can be easily modified.
The medial cuff is lower then the lateral cuff.

Now I need to figure…[Read more]

I may ride what I have and wait on new board, that is with new boots and bindings.

  • John replied to the topic Sidewinders or Phantoms? in the forum Bindings 8 years ago

I got ahold of John at Phantom, and will be on a pair this Fall.
    Easy decision.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • John replied to the topic Which Board in the forum Splitboards 8 years ago

I am looking for something shorter that will have good edge hold in the steeps, quick manuverability, and enough float for deep powder.

I like a board that returns energy, so pop, yes.

Most of my boards are cambered, haven’t spent much time on some of the new rocker profiles.

Never been on a tapered board.

My 2 most recent boards of reference…[Read more]
