They felt soft so I stuck the soft tongues back in the boots and they were perfect. I liked the progressive flex with the combo of link lever and tongue and was thrilled to be able to crank up my forward lean. I had also…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 2 years, 2 months ago @generalyen I recently picked up a second pair of Backlands and have considered taking the knife to my first pair now that I have a pair to experiment with. @CB I have a lot of days in my Backlands now and I’m a heavy guy and haven’t had any failures yet. I know Woods is putting triple digit seasons on his and has gone through a pair every…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Splitboard Crampons – Hardbooters in the forum The Gear Room 3 years ago I think I have the 130mm Dynafit ski crampons and they fit well on my Jones Solution 162W with just a little room to spare. Jason4 replied to the topic Tech binding leashes – Do you use them? in the forum Bindings 4 years, 1 month ago I keep my leashes with my ski crampons, if I’m in conditions that warrant crampons then I put the leashes on. I’ve had dynafits pop off a couple of times. I had a pair of B&D breakable leashes until my better half broke one somewhere along her volcano tour. I guess I don’t use leashes enough to warrant replacing the broken one yet but I will soon. Jason4 replied to the topic Standards in splitboards in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 4 years, 11 months ago We have all the standards we currently need. Insert patterns for the bindings and four touring and a pseudo standard for the bolt pattern for nose and tail clips and hooks allow various manufacturers to mix and match. Standardizing things like pucks and attachment types takes away the competitive advantage. That’s basically what we had when it…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Ski crampon for 27cm waist dynasplit – what are people using? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 4 years, 11 months ago I’ve had the wide B&D crampons and they are solid. As for crampons, this is the perfect season to justify their use, climbing on frozen corn in the morning sometimes calls for boot crampons but the afternoon ride back down is so much fun once it slushes up. Jason4 replied to the topic How fast uphill are you? in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 4 years, 11 months ago I’m usually the slowest in my group with the most snacks and the most extra gear (spare parts, light 2-person bivy sack, extra straps, etc) and for a normal day tour 1000’/hour is about the average pace. That’s not the climbing pace but the average for a roundtrip. A good example is a tour that had 3 climbs, 3 descents, about 6 miles total…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic WTB: Dynafit Toe Pieces in the forum Splitboard Swap 4 years, 11 months ago If you don’t have any luck with used toes you can get new ones from Skimo.co Jason4 replied to the topic Dynafit TLT6 MOD Thread in the forum Boots 4 years, 11 months ago You guys should check out the latest mods that John at Phantom has done to his TLT6s. Jason4 replied to the topic Reverse sidecut/taper in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 4 years, 11 months ago I think “taper” is getting misused a bit in the last couple of posts. Taper has traditionally been used to describe the difference in width between the nose and the tail of a snowboard. A common twin tip park board might be somewhere in the neighborhood of 30cm at the widest point at the nose and tail and 25cm wide at the narrowest part of the…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 5 years, 1 month ago I’m also ~200lbs and have been riding DriverX/Malavitas mostly on my solid board. The difference is that I run 27* on my front foot and always rotate my highback to match the angle. I’m used to having more support on the outside of my calf than what I have with the Backlands. I’ve thought about trying to track down just one carbon cuff for my…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 5 years, 1 month ago I think it would be easy to mod the forward lean lock for truly unlimited forward lean, there might not be enough material if you just want to open it up for a bit more forward lean but still have a hard stop. That said, I won’t be doing it. The boot flex is soft enough even locked that I didn’t have any problems. My only complaint so far is…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 5 years, 1 month ago I got to tour again on Sunday and actually put up 3000′ of vert. I don’t plan to mod the boots at all for riding and have found that I can ride and tour without changing the buckles and without the optional tongue. I had intended to put the tongue in to see if it helped with heel hold and to give more progressive forward flex but once I was on…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic The 2016/2017 Gear Thread in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 5 years, 1 month ago A friend of mine has been riding the Party Platter lately and loving it and another friend has been on the Aspects but I haven’t had a chance to talk to him about them. He took a pair to south America in the early fall to put some early season abuse on them. Jason4 replied to the topic New Voile Speed Rail Bindings in the forum Bindings 5 years, 1 month ago @Rughty If this binding is as similar to the K2 Kwicker system as it appears to be then K2 already addressed those issues with a bushing that the aluminum hooks ride on. I’ve been told that those bushings are even user serviceable but it’s been a while since I’ve had the K2 binding in hand. Jason4 replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 5 years, 1 month ago I might be biased by the “newer is better” mentality now that I’ve replaced my Dynafit Ones with Atomic Backlands but I really don’t see any advantage from the TLT5 or 6 over the Backlands. I’m so much happier being back on a boot that decouples the cuff tightness from the forward lean lock. I can flick the FL bar with my pole tip for skiing…[Read more] Jason4 replied to the topic Atomic backlands… Thoughts on mods in the forum Boots 5 years, 1 month ago There are two screws that hold the forward lean lock onto the cuff. It looks like there is room to move the screws further down in the cuff to increase the forward lean, mine came set at the most upright position. I like the angle so I haven’t tried changing it and I’m not sure how far you could go in either direction if you modify the boots. Jason4 replied to the topic New Voile Speed Rail Bindings in the forum Bindings 5 years, 1 month ago I had to look it up on Google, the work filter blocks FB. http://activejunky.com/articles/backcountry-tech-five-new-products-for-2016 That looks familiar. Jason4 replied to the topic US source for Colltex skins? in the forum The Gear Room 5 years, 1 month ago I double checked my Jones skins that are hanging at home right now, it says “Jones by Colltex” on the glue side of the skin. At least I know I’m not losing my memory, I suspect they changed suppliers if the current ones are Pomoca. Load More
