While I agree with most of the things said in this thread,
there’s a much simpler solution to that problem:

    Great setup!
Thanks for posting all the weights!

Amplid has some great boards to offer. Too bad, they only offer slim waists. (I’d need 270mm and more)

Markus just built a new board: http://erstespur.de/viewtopic.php?t=6299
    166cm Board itself: 2270g
Board with Spark Magneto and interface: 3800g

(he’s selling custom boards as well)

FloImSchnee replied to the topic Walking approaches in hard boots in the forum Boots 7 years, 4 months ago

Personally I would go for TLT5s, as I found the Siderals to be too stiff and to provide too little forward lean.

FloImSchnee replied to the topic First Splitboard Sizing in the forum Splitboards 7 years, 4 months ago

With size 11.5 feet I’d rather go for a board with >265mm waist.

FloImSchnee replied to the topic Flow Talon? in the forum Boots 7 years, 4 months ago

As written in post #2 above, I can only compare to the pretty similar Flow The One.

The latest Fitwell model is considerably stiffer than The One (and is stiffer than any other softboot anyway), especially after breaking in. So flat approaches are more fun in the The One (slightly longer stride), difficult sidehilling is a tad easier in the…[Read more]

FloImSchnee replied to the topic Are Voile touring risers worth the weight penalty? in the forum The Gear Room 7 years, 4 months ago

    Why shouldn’t they?
I use touring risers and Mr. Chomps.

@stuka: simply try it, as you already bought it. I didn’t notice a big difference, after having the risers mounted.

For good sidehilling, make sure your skins fit perfectly (base totally covered, but edges uncovered), strap in tightly for sidehill sections, and most importantly: practice.

I’m not aware of any skins that wide.
But: split skins might be helpful.

Easiest is to go to one of the many catered huts all over the alps.

I would never wear a bib for splitboarding, as it will simply increase sweating.

FloImSchnee replied to the topic Toe/Heel Drag Allowance (hardboots and softies) in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 7 years, 6 months ago

I have Fitwells size 300 and went for boards with 270-275mm waist to avoid toe drag.
Every mm less leads to crashes due to toe drags, when carving on a hard surface.
(and could be seriously dangerous in a steep wall or couloir)

You’ll be fine with any board with >265mm waist. There’s plenty to choose from.

To get a feeling for the relation this might help:
I usually wear shoes and boots with size 11.5 and sometimes 12, and Fitwell’s size 300 “fit well”.

Well, right now would still be fine, however more snow is melting now from day to day.

In early winter (from October on) one could basically ride snow on the glaciers again, however crevasses are an issue that soon in the season.

    Therefore my suggestion:
    – either go NOW,
    – or wait for December or January for powder touring, also in lower…[Read more]
