I generally agree with @cbalke that core shots are probably not a reason to choose one board over another. If you hit a rock perfectly wrong, any board is gonna be damaged.
I’ve ridden a TahoeLab Powfish and a Directional. My Directional is a newer build that is significantly lighter. I rode the Powfish all through the horrific drought season a…[Read more]

Jetboil for shorter/smaller trips, reactor for longer tours, white gas stoves for basecamp/little to no touring situations.
tough to beat dehydrated meals for lightweight and ease of cleanup (if you rehydrate in the bag) but adding some real fat (butter/olive oil/cheese) can increase flavor and calories significantly.

I’m pretty happy with the TLT6 so that’s a very strong starting point.
Moving the ankle strap more over the ankle. I think it’s too low on the green TLT6 but is reportedly a smidge higher on the blue/yellow version.
Earlier toeside resistance. After a couple seasons solely in HBs, I’ve ridden Burton Tourists about 10 time this season and I’ve…[Read more]

Good to hear. If anybody stumbles upon this thread and has an extra pair of green tongues, I’d be happy to pay shipping to Tahoe plus a little for your trouble.

Just bumping this.
You ever find a pair? I’d be interested in trying those green tongues as well.
dishwasher-dave replied to the topic TLT7-no bueno para splitboarding? in the forum Boots 7 years, 2 months ago
Interesting. I could see this design working for dynafit. You could could still rock semi-automatic crampons which are pretty darn solid. Bummer for splitters though.
From dynafit’s perspective why put a toe welt on their lighter boots?
dishwasher-dave replied to the topic Hardbooters – Crampon & Leash Questions in the forum The Gear Room 7 years, 2 months ago
I’ve never had any issues with aluminum crampons. I used some strap on Camps for a couple years and then updated to automatic BDs when I went fruit boot 2 seasons back.
I’m not especially careful with them (i.e. I’ll walk across rocks on Shasta) but I’m also pretty light. A bigger person stepping on a rock in the perfectly wrong way could…[Read more]

For ski stuff, I’ve been using BD aluminum on TLT6s for everything but straight water ice w/ rappels. Worked groovy so far. Those grivels look great though.
In the bc I’ve never thought about using leashes and pretty much always lock my toes. I’ve skied around resorts a fair bit on my split with dyna toes and thought about rocking leashes but…[Read more]

@snowsnowsnow You can pay at the door. Registration is strong but it’s a big venue so a total sellout looks pretty unlikely.
Psyched to hear some splitters will be rolling.
If anybody is sticking around on Sunday there is a Gear Swap in the parking lot next to Divided Sky as well.

dishwasher-dave replied to the topic Snowboard Boot Crampon/Ice Axe in the forum The Gear Room 7 years, 11 months ago
All fine suggestions, just thought I would add some perspective from a weight weenie.
Unless there is ice and a known rappel on my route, if I’m carrying my split and planning to ride down my ascent line, I’m grabbing aluminum 9 times out of 10 both for crampons and ice ax. The weight difference is massive and that translates into more fun and…[Read more]
dishwasher-dave replied to the topic TLT6 – replacing liners for heel slippage in the forum Boots 7 years, 11 months ago
Any decent boot fitter should be able to take care of heel slippage. If you haven’t already had your liners heat molded, that is very highly recommended.
If you already had them in to a boot fitter and this is still an issue, take em back and ask for further assistance. Assuming you have the proper size and the boot is generally a decent match…[Read more]
dishwasher-dave replied to the topic Jones Solution, any lingering quality issues? in the forum Splitboards 8 years ago
I’ve noticed a huge difference in edge width between splits and touring skis (BDs carbon line specifically). Obviously part of the trade off between lightweight and durability but worth it for me.

That big wind on Monday was unnecessary, our snowpack already sucked enough.
From Monday, when much of the soft stuff up high was blowing away… it was hard to stand on the ridge during the bigger gusts.
I think a couple of splitter laid down this skin track earlier in the day (on Monday) and then…[Read more]

Important post. Beacons are so easy to use these days and I regularly see folks who clearly haven’t practiced enough.
It’s cool BCA puts a good deal of emphasis on education.

I second Nomad’s comments on the Gallatin Avy Center. They do a great job (especially check out their vids).
I look forward to the TR.

Good article. Thanks for putting it together.
One other issue with carbon is the topsheet color. I’d be curious to know the barriers to doing something non black. BD seems to have solved this with their carbon BC skis.

My feet are smaller than yours but I don’t remember my old Malamutes as being abnormally long sole wise (I bet they are in the normal range). 11’s aren’t that huge, plenty of folks have hooves that big or larger and make it work. If you could adjust your binders towards the toe that would likely solve your problem (especially with a wide jones).…[Read more]

Andrew’s just being a joker but he’s getting at real issues around etiquette and bc culture. With so much growth in BC travelers there are a lot of newbies out there and just a lot more folks in general. UAC Forecaster Drew Hardesty has been beating the drum on these issues as well. He had a poster on the serious side of this at ISSW in Banff.…[Read more]
