That was a superfun trip! There are definitely some lines to be had back there. Next time I have to remember the crampons. My feet kept pushing out of the verts anytime I kicked steps outside of the fall line on the hardpack. A little bit unnerving at times 😯

    thanks guys,

I think I’m going to save williamson bowl for when I have more time.

Also, I got some helpful info from Google Earth for that couloir in the picture…

Definitely some cool lines out there, but probably won’t be good to go until the cornices on top mellow out a bit. Those chutes under Phipps though… they look pretty ripe. That whole bowl is pretty sick.

I would definitely pick up some cheat sheets, I can’t imagine not using them with new 130mm skins

There are a couple good boards out there with risers already built into them. I used to ride a K2 Recon Riser, and never had any toe drag problems with my size 13 boots, even though it had like a 25cm waist. I am currently on an Atomic Firestarter running low angles (5-10 degrees either way) and never have any problems. The risers on it are a tad…[Read more]

    Killer!

    Awesome pics

That area is so beautiful, between the nearby mountains and the waterfalls/cliffs down low. Who knew we had to watch out for bears when riding… that would make a pretty sweet shot, outrunning a bear down glider chute.

I especially like the skier lines you were making!

The one I took is the one in hurchalla’s book. You can take the far ridge as well, but it starts about a kilometer to the south of hill 7844′. I would only recommend it if you want to ride the bowl far lookers right (which looked a little less fun, but more continuous)

so above (in the flat area southeast of 7844′) you’d want to head directly…[Read more]

So I dug up a still from video I took on the way up Red Lake in March. Here you can see Glider Chute completely, and I highlighted the top part of our route.

question: how were you planning on being able to cross the bergschrund uphill? and if you did, what would you do on the way down? just curious, as I have never done any glacier riding.

These chutes drop pretty much directly east from the summit if you are looking at a topo, with the cross being a little farther to the south.
