You definitely should consider using the same material above and below the core. Not doing that will cause problems with base flatness. Have you made a board before? If not, maybe stick with cheaper materials for your first couple until you get a few under your belt. My two cents. Good luck!

Thanks @buell for your thorough explanation. I’m not sure if you remember but we rode together at June Mountain a few seasons back with Tex on a powder day. You were riding your Furburg. Where are you stationed this year? I’m headed up to the East Side today.

Thanks for the picture @permnation. So the wide points are at the ends of the effective edge correct? I have seen Furburg specs that show two effective edge lengths. Is one the beginning of the taper and one at the end? The reason this is interesting to me is that I have been making my own boards since last winter and for a few years I have been nerding out on board design. I completely understand the merits of the furburg design, I just want to understand the taper aspect so I can try it out on my own boards. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

+1 for the Hovercraft. I have a DIY split plus a solid and for me, I think I would be totally happy riding it full time. Really fun, solid ride. It’s even amazing on groomers!

Hey Leism, what are your pucks made from? I made some from UHMWPE with overlap similar to yours and they really do make a huge difference. I would like to find something a little stiffer and lighter? perhaps. Any suggestions?

I have a hover solid and a Hover diy split. It is an epic board. It even rides groomers amazingly. I think I could probably ride it full time. Cheers.

Hey Bob can you tell me about your pucks? What are they made out of?

I took my board apart and took measurements. Everything was dead on. Put it back together and problem solved. I must of had some stuff under my pucks. As far as I know Jones only makes the Ultracraft as two separate skis.

I’m having the same problem and I can’t figure it out. With the bindings removed the base is flat as well as the top. It’s as if one side of the pucks is thicker than the other. Have you figured anything out yet?
