ive got some approach skis for mountaineering, but guesswhat? theyre real skis…and theyve got voile plates for bindings. they weigh 5 pounds for the pair…

mtn approach uses the “grenade gloves” strategy, get as many DOPE boarders on your team as possible and the kids will start to think its the coolest shit ever.

    where is grenade gloves now?

I really dig some of his board designs though I suspect we’ll never see something like the the spring break tree hunter in a split 😥 Too bad.

i dont think it is the same corey smith

    Mtn approach is dumb

i’d say give it another try. little tweaks go a long ways.

I would like to see more people using a boot/binding quiver. I ride hard boots when its called for, and i ride soft boots when it is better for soft boots.

christoph benells replied to the topic La Sportiva Spantik – First Impressions, Feedback Welcome in the forum Boots 8 years, 2 months ago

i would take the spantiks on the sled with you to 14. tour and ride in the fitwells. either that or maybe your overboots can fit over your fitwells? then there may be no need for the spantiks…or some tlt’s with 40 below overboots.

christoph benells replied to the topic Are soft boots as effective as hb going up the slope? in the forum Boots 8 years, 2 months ago

I am suprised no one has talked about the advantages if hb’s while pooping in the backcountry.

For example the range of motion in the cuff allows for one to take up poses like the “thinking man” and “track start” much easier. And the rearward flex makes resting your back against a tree much easier.

Pair that with the low profile and stiff sole…[Read more]

christoph benells replied to the topic Seeking input from spliboarders in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 2 months ago

i think the biggest problems with snowboard industry outerwear are fit and materials.

if it were me i would want (like has already been said) something tighter fitting but not so tight as climbing gear type pants.

I also want gore-tex pro or a 3layer fabric, full zips, no extraneous pockets or doodads.

some extra tough crampon patches are nice…[Read more]

im not sure if they still do it but they probably do…

lake tahoe community college has a one week backcountry snowboardiing course that im pretty sure is taught by sb.com’s own dishwasher dave. complete with winter camping and a big traverse through the wilderness.

i bet it is just as good as those expensive services at a much cheaper price,…[Read more]

These spines were right out of our tent door, so awesome! Perfect Preserved Powder Pointing north…all north aspects were so good! Not too bad for the middle of may.

christoph benells replied to the topic splitboard winter camping thread in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 8 years, 4 months ago

all this sounds great, but I’d say taking all that gear is a sure fire way to have a 60+ pound pack. Trango 3 tent weighs like 12 lbs! to me that sounds like not much fun. with all that gear your probably going to make only 5-6 miles in, which with a light pack you could do in a day trip…

i would recommend a far lighter setup, maybe a single…[Read more]
