Just looking out. I figured ya’ll knew what was up. Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Skunk Ape or not? in the forum Splitboards 12 years, 1 month agoMan, now I’m really confused. After reading the review on the Solution I think that might be the way to go. I’m a believer in Mag and I now Nidecker makes good boards. CAnt beat it for $800. I still think I may end up splitting one of the Skunk Apes though. I think the camber is better for skinning, especially when I’m punching through all the…[Read more] Captain Beefheart replied to the topic The Official Mt Baker Splitboard Festival thread. in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 12 years, 1 month agoThose pics look epic fellas. Makes me want to drive my ass up there from Cali. Sheet man! I hate to bring it up but I sure hope all you folks had beacons, probes and shovels with ya. Those conditions looked a little sketch. Not trying to be a negative Nancy, I just didn’t see them in any of the pics… better safe than sorry you know? Don’t…[Read more] Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Skunk Ape or not? in the forum Splitboards 12 years, 2 months agoShameless Bump… Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Epoxying t-nut holes flush in the forum DIY and Mods 12 years, 11 months agoI just split my old GNU (not ready to split one of my Lib’s just yet). The cut turned out perfect as did all the holes I had to drill and fill. (I must admit I was a little nervous at first). I bought some of the West Systems G-Flex 650 marine epoxy that DeeJayoh recommended above. It worked perfect. I also used it to seal the sides. Anyhow,…[Read more] Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Can I cut a GNU Carbon Hi-Beam? in the forum DIY and Mods 13 years, 1 month agoI do have a nice table-saw I could use. However, I might have a buddy cut it on his water-jet. He guaranteed a perfect cut… just got to pay for shipping to CO. I was also thinking about having him split my Lib Tech Skunk-Ape. Probably just have Monk do that one though.Tootles,Stephen Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Shopping list for backcountry camping in the forum The Gear Room 13 years, 1 month agoI use a Hilleberg Kaitum 2 for my tent year round. It is the best tent I have ever used. It is especially light compared to other 4 season mountain tents. If I’m going solo I usually just use the outer tent (especially in winter) which saves over 2 pounds.I use a 35 degree Western Mountaineering sleeping bag down to 0 degrees. I simply wear my…[Read more] Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Cilogear packs? in the forum The Gear Room 13 years, 1 month agoI have a 60L and love it. Very versatile. I use it now for most of my trips. Very light, compressible and comfortable. I tried ordering the snowboard pouch a couple years ago but Graham has been out of stock since. I carried a snowboard a few times on short day hikes. The weight of the board seemed to put excessive stress on the bar-tacked…[Read more] Captain Beefheart replied to the topic The Welcome Wagon in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 13 years, 1 month agoHey all. My name is Stephen, I’m out of the L.A. area. I’ve been snowboarding for 22 years. Its been fun to watch the sport grow. I spend most of my backcountry time climbing the fine granite and ice of the Sierra Nevada. I’m about to split an old beater GNU with some Sparks. The DIY threads have helped me a bunch. Thanks for the beta.…[Read more] Captain Beefheart replied to the topic T. Rice's New splits in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 13 years, 1 month agoI wish i had three Monkified Lib-Techs… shit! T.Rice is one lucky dude! Captain Beefheart replied to the topic Can I cut a GNU Carbon Hi-Beam? in the forum DIY and Mods 13 years, 1 month agoCool! Thanks for the tip. I contacted them today, they were very helpful. They said to go ahead cut it. Probably give it the chop next week. All the beta I got from these DIY threads sure does help… I think it will be pretty straight-forward. I’m thinking about shipping the deck to my buddy in CO as he offered to split it on a water-jet (so…[Read more]
