    Hey man,

Just wanted to say that an introduction to splitboarding and this site (really) helped me through an extremely difficult struggle with drugs and alcohol. It was in the mountains and talking about the mountains here that helped me find some solace. The mountains can heal, I know. Your dedication to this site and this sport is bigger…[Read more]

Functional hoods are a bonus. By this I mean make sure you can get the damn thing over your face and head when need be. I really don’t want frost bite on my nose because it zips up too tight over my chin and mouth and leaves my nose exposed. Use a heavy weight denier because at the high price of gear, it should last for a while. I made the…[Read more]

Never leave home without ’em. Mrs. used one to keep her pant leg out of the chain the other day. They also hold on busted derailleurs real nice. And all this before the snow even falls

802smuggler replied to the topic skin glue rehab in the forum The Gear Room 8 years, 3 months ago

I ended up going with parchment paper and the iron. Actually, Jan did all the ironing (they’re her skins) and it didn’t take more than 20 minutes anyway. The glue resurfaced pretty nicely. There ended up being some excess glue that got mashed off the edge but I just used a razor to trim that away. The new surface still has all its tackiness…[Read more]

Good stuff Karkis. One correlation that I noticed, that I think is important to note is this: Where the graph breaks things down into 5 year incraments, 2010 to present (the time when recorded avalanches jumped in numbers) has one of the lowest average numbers of fatalities. This at a time when backcountry travel has much larger numbers of…[Read more]

I don’t think it needs to be thrown away. If nothing else it shows that the agency responsible for that graph is taking a proactive approach and keeping more detailed records. I agree, it could be misleading or look like shitty record keeping. But, the more information one has, the better they can educate.

    ^^^Scientifically, I’d suspect there was a change in observations/data collection sop’s. But that’s just a hunch.

It doesn’t sound like rocket science. Besides, it’s a good time in N.E. to fart around with some gear and get psyched! Thanks for the input.

i know what you mean by shitty glue. Mine are worn in to a good place. They just kind of suck sometimes (wet snow, multiple laps). But yea, for one good tour, they’re pretty reliable.
But her pair. I don’t know. I don’t think the glue was ever right. Her base needs a base grind because nobody can get all the glue off of it. I think we will…[Read more]

I would say no. You aren’t riding at Smuggs anymore. 😉 I grew up in VT, rode a 154 (perfect for east), and I’m now on a 159 and 162 (perfect for west). I’m 5′ 7″ 150lbs for context.

I also really like the Spark straps that anchor your boot upper to your highbacks. It’s a little added confidence for something like 20 bucks although you could easily make your own.

Your timing is impeccable…you’ll see. :headbang:

Are you using crampons or no? How much traversing? Other than that go with the boots that fit you and your riding style best. I just got a pair of SLX’s (90% off, Ha!) and I’m sure they will work just fine for my North East touring, ymmv.
