In the second segment of Carpe Diem – Peru, Aurelien Routens had his sights set on riding the mystical summit of Artesonraju . In this episode, Aurelien meets up with Milon, Fabien and Mathieu as they move from summit to summit, starting with Huandoy south.

After our adventures of the first episode we return to Huaraz a few days to recover and do a little partying . We meet a Milon, who I know through competitions. With Fabien, Mathieu, and friends, we all have the same goal: the Artesonraju . But we decided initially to go Huandoy south to get to know each other. This becomes very steep , we know that we do not Ride from above, but we’ll still see the view. The next day we return with Fabien , who was ill , to ride the hotline .

This time we drive the Artesonraju. Our Sherpa explains that his brother died here when the anchor for the first rappel failed. The ascent of the mythical summit
We leave our boards ¾ of the face, the snow becomes too hard and we know that we can not ride from the top. We joined our gear and I put on my board to test the quality of the snow. The snow is really hard. I want to try but I’m not sure of myself 100%. If I fall, it is death. I am well aware and it hangs in the balance. I want to go to camp this evening. It is with regret that I surrender, I put on my crampons and we all descend the face.

I’m very tired as we reach the tent, it has been 14 hours since we left. We were unable to ride the face, but what a day! My first 6000 meters.

This trip will remain forever in my memory. Peru is another world.
