Was thinking about a long tour in the Castle Peak area today...leave a car at the Negro Canyon trail head and then park another up near Donner Summit...head out Andesite Ridge, etc. Way too optimistic...only dirt at the Negro Canyon trail head. Skinned up the south face of Castle - firm snow but edgeable. Super thin.

Ran across some stickerage on local bc quick hit spot. Winds were howling and slabbing snow up high, but the riding conditions were primo. It's kinda that sweet spot of sorta low tide, but enough snow to go fast and plenty of obstacles to launch on the way down.

Ok, about time for an update. Its been snowing about an inch or two everynight the last couple of nights, and today I was lookin forward to gettin after it with some friends. We went out to Kit Carson pass and the snow was light and deep with lots of windloading on the ridges. Conditions looked a bit sketch on the drop in, so we dug a pit and the pit confirmed the sketchyness of the ridge Column test failing with a few light hand taps (Just over a foot deep)
