If starting from scratch and $50 isn't breaking the bank, then go for it, they will outlast and out perform hooks.
This is about as dead of horse as possible, but Stein no offense, maybe you could make a case for K-clips using theory. Justify this quote for me, please. How do you make such a statement.

The K-clips give a much more secure fit to the board IMHO. On an old board of mine, the voile hooks would rub against each other while riding since there was nothing to stop them from moving vertically. The K-clips reduce movement in all directions giving a much more solid feel to the board.
I think they are worth the extra $50 if you are looking for a more solid fit, but my board came with them.

Please explain to me with some more detail what has you perplexed and maybe I could clarify for you.
From my own experience using both systems, I have found the K clips perform the best, possibly you could share your experience.
The outlast part. Both systems are going get more play the older they get but the K-clips have only been around for what 3 years so to make a statement that their going to outlast the chinese hooks? I don't know how you make such a statement.
My experience is limited with the k-clips. I fooled around with about 4 boards with the k-clips on and 3 out of the 4 boards I got just as much if not more play then the chines hooks I was doing a side by side comparison with. I'll admit the 4th one was pretty snug. So much so that it U-ed out the board. For me I like the option to twist my hooks so nothing is sticking out picking up extra snow as I follow a skinny track, I can stomp my edge on an icy slope or not have to worry about banging it up on a rock or something. I also don't care for the flappety flap of the clips. I'm looking for something clean, simple and proven personally. I'm open for whatever, the k-clips can definitely reduce the gap in a board but I'm not too worried about a gap more worried about play between the boards.

Are you messing with me stein? Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by outlast, what were you referring to.
