Yo yo OCD...good to see you!
I've been meaning to do a follow up to this thread. It's all about stuff sacks! I use two (not sure the exact volume but when they are full they fit perfectly in the pack without deforming its natural shape). One holds my descent gloves, down or synthetic jacket/vest, goggles, extra beanie, extra socks, and the other holds my other misc items and lunch. By keeping all these small items in the sacks it keeps things tidy and organized (which is the key like you said).
Hey now know if I ever tour with bc, I don't need to bring much!
Touring in the wasatch, you don't need so much because you can just go get it and come back!
No, seriously the one thing you might consider is a fold up foam pad. After taking a Wilderness First Responder first aid course, I was amazed at how cold you get playing the injured party lying on the ground even when there is no snow and it is 60 degrees. If anyone in the party had a significant trauma and was incapacitated, they would be hypothermic soo fast lying in the snow, and rounding up a bed of tree branches/gear takes too long and is pretty difficult when someone is hurting and can't stand etc.
I bring a 3/4 Z-Rest folded right against my back, also great for civilized lunches/dinners in the pow.
I've been using a cheap north face exocet with the slight customization of combining the two outer pockets in to one, love it. it weighs 2lbs,5 oz and cost me 50 something. That's about half the weight of the dakines.

^^^Beacon in the pack doesn't do much good. The pack could easily get ripped off of you in a slide. Also, if you are searching for someone, you should be able to have the beacon on your hand instantly.

Oops, I saw that after I posted it.....Just copy and pasted my Packing lis off of word.....Beacon is always turned on and strapped to my body when I am in the back country
