I've been somewhat frustrated with perspective of this camera. I really like the perspective that GoPros seem to achieve, i.e. able to get a decent amount of the board while still capturing the horizon. I reverted to shooting in the "tall" orientation on the Contour, which is the only way I've been able to capture the perspective I like. Problem is I feel like a big part of the frame is being wasted by doing this.
Does anyone have any tips for shooting in the wide mode and getting this ideal perspective? I've tried a bunch and just can't seem to nail it. Thanks!

Tall is the best way too achieve this. I finally gave up on POV for the most part. so I don't really have any great tips. Also try sliding the camera further back on the goggle strap to get more board in the shot.

that barbie question is pretty deep. I thought about tackling it but I'm not ready emotionally.

I would say the best thing to do with a POV is leave it at home. Thats what I did. If you really like videos than use a digital camera capable of taking good video, then film your partners. Helmet cam is pretty lame unless you are dropping some insano steep AK spine in deep pow. No offense meant, just my

I had that camera and gave up on it. The newer Contour models have a wider angle so they might work better.

Depends what you want to show. For the classic straight ahead POV shot, with the tip of the board in the frame. I use the helmet mount on top of the helmet, but you will have to experiment with positioning to get the downward angle just right. With this position you can get good framing with either tall HD or 16:9 formats.
I agree with the folks who have some criticism for POV footage, but do find that it can be interesting for steep lines with a lot of features (like alpine couloirs). Always make sure to film your partners as much as possible and edit that riding footage in to avert the boredom which comes from staring at the tip of your board for 5 minutes!
Additionally, finding some eye candy (cute girls) to ride with and edit in never hurts!

I found the same problem with my contour. Lots of testing and you will get it. Once i got mine to the exact spot, I marked the mount so i wouldn't loose the position.
