I live in Stavanger. we have a great mountain area called Hunnedalen

We also have the best surf in Norwaii and a big kitesurf scene(on snow also) 15-60 minutes from town.

Bergen has no waves. I would avoid settle in Oslo at all cost.. Trondheim is kind of flat,no waves and bad wind.

Lots of good kitesurf close to Stavanger. Snowkiting is also quite popular in Norway. from Bergen you will find splitboard-able mountains within 30-45 mins of driving from town, the Voss area is the closest are with "real" mountains (as in, "snowboard-movie-worthy" mountains ).

Keep me posted, I'm in Bergen/Voss from time to time.

sweet. sounds like i can't lose. stavanger definitely offers me more work wise but will have to see how my wife 's uni application goes. either way i can't wait to get there.. and the general feel seems to be to give oslo a miss which i can certainly love with.

expect me to be hitting you up for more info once i know where we are going.

Stavanger is also a big oil city. high salaries (and cost of living).If you have skills the oil companys need its more than possible to land a job on an offshore oil rig. work rotation could be 2 weeeks on 4 weeks off!

Bergen is also a hub for the oil platforms,but is a little less centred around the oil.

Stay well clear of oslo...
Bergen has kvamskogen area 45min drive away. From there to voss it only gets better and better The mountains around voss got its on book this year. Called "topptur i vossafjell" Several trips documented with pictures, car access, alternative routes and things to look out for.
Should also be mentioned that Bergen and Voss is linked via train. Both local and express. At least one trip mentioned in the book can be reached from one of the local trainstations.
If there is a good winter in Bergen you can take a cable car to mount ulriken and freeride down with the city of Bergen as view

Hello fellow Norwegian splitters!
I study and live in Sogndal. I'm 23, been riding for 13 years and splitting for 3 years now.
I just recently got my second splitboard, a Lib Tech T. Rice 164,5, after my first split, a Prior AMF 159 broke while attaching the climbing skin. I have the first generation Spark R&D Ignition bindings, but are looking to upgrade them to the Edison system this coming season if it's gonna be as good as it looks. I recently switched out some older three-piece Black Diamond poles with the new Black Diamond Compactor poles, which is probably the smartest thing I've done in a while. They fit so nice inside my backpack while collapsed, and I don't have to worry about them falling off like the old ones that I had to attach on the outside of the backpack.

I can highly recommend splitboarding here in Sogndal, the last 2 years it's been just ridiculously good snow and the terrain is really accessible(Svarteholten, Grånipa, Togga, Frudalshesten, Barnakona, Sogndalseggi, Synnevaskjer, Skjerdingane) with everrything from nice short hikes in the trees to longer and more alpine hikes with incredible views and desencts. Avalanche wise, it seems like Sogndal might be blessed with more stable conditions than closer to the ocean(Sunnmørsalpene, Lofoten, Tromsø) or further east(Hemsedal) in Norway. The reason for this is that it doesn't get as much wind, nor does it get those long cold periods that can freeze high unstable avalanche conditions for a long period of time.

Sogndal has two smaller ski resorts within 20 minutes of driving from town. Hodlekve, in Sogndalsdalen has a small lift that takes you above the treeline, and from there you can access the funnest snowboarding terrain in Norway with a 30 minute hike on your splitboard(bald claim, I know, but everyone that goes there agrees ). It's a steep and open birch forest with alot of pillows and small(and some big) drops that is about 3 km wide and 500 meters of vertical drop down to the road, where you wait for the powder bus to take you back to the resort(30kroner a trip). You can easily get in 4 of the funnet runs you will ever take in one day(and the day after and the day after, as it rarly gets all tracked up before another dump hits it).

Also, Sogndal is close to Jostedalen, which provides for great splitboarding(less crowded, and when tired of skinning up the same skin tracks week after week) all winter and spring at Vangsen, Hest and other great peaks. An hour of driving east of Sogndal, you will find the south-western and most alpine part of Jotunheimen, Hurrungane. Hurrungane is a range that provides great fall, spring and early summer splitboarding, with longer trips and many options for base camps with steep and challenching ascents and descents(some really steep and nice couliors) like Store and Midtre Ringstind, Dyrhagstind, Lauvnostind, Austabotntind, Steindalsnosi and Fannaråken.

Im currently on a Prior spearhead/Spark burner lt/t1s and a couple solids.

I started snowboarding in 1996 after ten years on telemark skis. I got snowshoes and started hiking summits with the board on my back in 2000. In 2007 I got my first splitboard , a Voilé SD mojo 161 with Sparks R&D bindings. Summer 2011 I bought a new Voilé mojo RX 161 on a trip to the US, but it is unfortunately still unused. I lost the whole 11/12 season because of concussion , so I am very keen on going splitboarding again. I'm still not fully recovered, but should be fit enough soon.

For the most I go splitboarding in the Hemsedal area. I have also been to places like Rosendal, Voss and Sunnmøre. All my friends are on skis , so it would be fun to hook up with some other splitboarders.

Im gonna try out my new spearhead and burner lt combination in tamok this weekend. Just shout out if someone is intrested to join.
