WTF is that contraption?

That set up looks really heavy. Bomber bails are much heavier than necessary, my Burton RacePlate based bindings weigh 475 each with aluminum pins and titanium bolts. Chris Klug won an Olympic medal racing these bindings (he is a big guy) so I am not worried about their strength. Add the weight of the Voile pucks and the system is still really light, and the thinner bails allow for a little forgiving flex in the binding without the added complexity, weight, and height of an articulated binding.
I really hope Will (Spark) comes through with an Edison based system, but it will be awhile if it happens at all. Until then, I am pretty happy with my set up and Dynafit toe pieces.

If any one finds any close ups of the mechanism, could they point me in that direction? I'm still in search of the all elusive perfect binding. While searching for more info, I found this hilarious link:

The fact that bails (any bails) have multiple sizing options along the side; the footprint of the pucks is smaller and requires no pin; and that its as low to the board as a Spark is quite appealing. In fact that side view is exactly like something I proposed to Will a couple season's back.
Whether or not the myriad of HB/SB alternatives showing up recently actually get to market, I'm stoked at all the tinkering that is happening

As did I. This is the approach I would recommend to be applied to the Edison plate. Multiple holes along the sides at 1 CM centers, and micro adjust bails for fine tuning. But with 5 mm bails for less weight and better compatibility with Dynafit (short toe and heel ledges) boots. I would also propose built in 2.5-3 degree medial cant (as making this adjustable would add weight, height, and complexity-2.5 to 3 degrees should be workable for anyone). With 1 cm centers on the bail mount points, one would then need 4 mm of adjustment at the bails (by the threaded shoulder mount), to have total boot compatibility and accurate boot centering.
This design, can also be applied to a nice machined plate, compatible with the Voile pucks (as proposed) and could be very lightweight, fully adjustable, and very low to the board (same height as current soft boot bindings).

I suppose you could machine these out to lighten them (are they still produced?). Is shiming for lean necessary? Or can you run hard boots flat? I think this has been asked before but why can't you attach bails on pucks right to the board?

i like my "power U" design where you have canted pucks, fashion an anti ice plate to the pucks, and you have a aluminum U with bails on it that slides under the pucks.

and a ovalized pin so you slide it in and lock it down, and it pushes the boards together.

In the quest for low cheap light hardboot bindings i came up with this.
Front binding with toe lift, the rear binding would be similar but with heal lift.
Can be made with 5mm or 6 mm bomber bails for karkis like cliff huckerss.

What size boots?

Nice work Vapor, 3#3 per foot, paired with a minimalist carbon fiber tech/dyna style toe for the up could be the future.
All you weight weenies will have to give up your lacey strappy things at this rate.

Still, I do like the idea of 2 quick levers that pull the board halves together like the bulldog configuration but doubt it could be made as light with a metal latch bracket on either half, and stance positioning would be trickier.

under 90 grams per toe piece

Treepilot, I run a 26.5 boot but its actually easier to build these with larger boot sizes.
Threw this together yesterday as i had a bit of time and still working on a few things to get adjustment so its still in the process.
The one drawback is that one size wont fit all and can only be made as a custom plate.
