I'm going to give this a whirl over the weekend, curious if anyone else has tried to fix their heel and what were the results?

I figure, it only gets in the way when touring up low angle terrain where the climbing bar is too much, have to leave the lever open.

Once the climbing bar is up, its out of the way, even free to still utilize the crampon.

My only concern is it may damage the pin/binding, but it seems pretty solid.

thoughts?

Looks good man. I'd be more worried about the holes drilled in your board than the bindings!

I just talked to Bryce (from Karakoram) and he said that they are redesigning the tour mode so the fixed heel will be an option. He said they would be available sometime next season. Hope this helps.

between all the core shots and t-nuts full of epoxy and ptex, 4 more little holes are barely noticeable

but I would prefer the bolts do break or pull out of the board before the binding fails, hopefully I never find out

Their bushings just rotate so well :D

I have a few ideas on how to do this without drilling holes in the board, but I do think that this solution looks appropriate.

When are you guys finding you want your heels locked down? Unless the binding releases I think I'm happy to have my heel floating in hopes of keeping my knees intact. Anything that I can't ski down free heel I'd probably just make the swap and snowboard down anyways. The only time I've wanted to be able to lock my heels is for sidestepping up something (tight, tricky kick turn in the trees) but that was such a limited use that I don't think I'd want to add any weight or complexity to my kit just for that.
