The 2012/2013 Blaze binders are 84 grams lighter than the 2011/12 version. That's almost three ounces. The material has been heavily machined to reduce weight both in the baseplate as well as the heelcup. The most notable refinement in the design however is that the toe strap which was previously held in place by a set of small tabs and four screws is now held in place by a slot machined into the base. This means there are six less parts per binder - a significant reduction in the overall number of parts.
It seems the touring adapter pin is stationary and that the toe ramp articulates/folds to lock the binding onto the touring adapter. Very cool.
The "pucks" are made in two halves that overlap the board a little like Chinese hooks:
Cap construction Voiles need not apply, probably.
I might be totally wrong, but my guess is the binding drops onto the central puck and via a bayonet mount using a 1/8-turn (or similar rotation), it locks under the little teeth sticking up from the puck. Either that or folding the toe ramp down somehow engages a locking mechanism?
The binding angle can be set via adjusting the rotation of the blue disc on the binding base plate. Very slick.

I can't believe how similar that is to what I've made. Yo rotate it 1/8th turn to lock, and it overlaps to make a stronger connection. They did a nice job, looks really good.

The Edison interface is fucking slick. Will just took the game to a whole different level. Which is great.
Not only is it super easy to mount the plates and works with regular boards and factory splits. For you DIY guys, you won't need to t bolt pucks and such to your board. Just use the 4x2 (or 4) pattern. That takes a whole lot of work out of it.
My first impression was that this is a very solid and well thought out system. I think you'll see the touring brackets become a solid piece to work with this system. Instead of a pin going through the LT's.
There might be some hitch's with snow on the board interface, but it looks like it'll be fairly easy to clean out. I don't think it's going to be significantly harder to deal with than any of the other interfaces.
It is also going to shave a lot of weight off of your board. Karakorum's new binding is the lightest out there for sure. Spark's binding on the Edison is still light. The interface plates are super light. Not much there. I would not be surprised if the Edison turns out to be the lightest complete system offering out there next year.
Both guys are coming up with some really good stuff.

I instantly thought of your design when I saw this. And when I first saw your design I wondered why something similar hadn't been machined out of aluminum by one of the big binding manufacturers? Obviously they must have been working on this for months now to get to such an apparently finished state.
I can't believe there was so little coverage of this so far. No one shot a vid of Edison on the show floor??

That's freaking genius.
