Sometimes things just work out. Sitting in the pub at Mount Seymour watching light fluffy snow fall Friday night and waking up Saturday morning to snow on the streets of Vancouver, I knew there was a real possibility that this could be a rare cold smoke coastal ski weekend. Rallying the troops for a ski mission, I poured over weather data and settled on the Coquihalla Highway, site of my first and what I consider the only other REAL pow day I have had all year.

It didn't disapoint 40cms or fluff with no wind. Picture tells the story

very nice. way to make the right call. seems like these really cold storms can sometimes be tough to call, it tends to be a lot more localized and hit and miss. i had a feeling it would be good on the coq. now i know.

which peak were you skiing?

It was lucky even more luck is that there was only one other party in the area. We were skiing Thar peak but not the traditional descent routes more on the shoulders.

Awesome! I rode Zoa a couple years ago, since then Ive wanted to get up there again!

The Coquihalla is becoming a pretty busy area. Lots of skiing pretty accessible from Vancouver and Kamloops. Five years ago you would be lucky to see 5 cars at any of the areas. Sunday there must have been 20 cars just at Falls Lake exit it. The only thing is the COQ tends to be very hot and cold in terms of quality though. You get big storms but the next day ruined by rain. Much like the local North Shore Mountains of Vancouver.

As for the Duffey a friend of mine was up there today skiing Rohr. They skied southern Comfort Chute top 450m was top notch bottom 300ish was crusty. Duffey needs some more lovin down low.

Overall all looking good. Heading to Rogers Pass next week and it is looking REALLY good for next week.

Don't want to give details on a public site but splitboard.com is obscure enough - look behind Thar and behind Yak. Lots of interesting lines that have the right NE aspect you can access

I was there on sunday as well. Snow was really deep and the base is incredible, we poked around with a probe and never found the bottom.

Great photos! Thought I'd add some more to the bunch. I've never had so many powder turns in one day. The photos don't do justice.. in many of them, they look like random clouds of snow.. but in fact, we're in the middle of those clouds.
