These have about 15-20 days on them. The hole is from the pin rubbing against the surface of the boot. Both are getting worse. I never had this problem with the Driver X for whatever the reason.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Ouch!

LT pins or SS? I can't say for sure as I don't have the deeluxe, but it seems like the wear spot is high on the boot...the ends of my pins don't come up much past the sole when I'm cinched in the binders. Is it the shape of the boot that allows them to turn up like that?

+ 1 thinking that this is very high on the boot.

I have the Spark boots. Only strapped into the Blaze, but don't remember the pin staying this high. Will check when I get home, but almost sure pin stays lower.

Cheers

Shouldn't the pins be tucked under the boot sole?

My pin stays low, at the level of the rubber sole of the Deeluxe

It 'may' come up when you strap in, though - if you pull on the toe strap while stepping in. If you don't pay attention, you can ratchet in this position and then I can see how this damage may occur

Best

Yeah, my pins tuck under sothey are by the sole of the boot. Not sure which pins you have. However, I am getting a wear spot at the heel of the boot from the highback where it connects to the heel cup. I've only been out on them 3 days and its happening on both sides of both boots, but only wearing through one die of one of the boots. I am riding Spark Fuse bindings. Am going to send some photos to Spark to see what they say.

Thanks for all the responses guys.
Jcocci, I have that same hole in both boots. You can even see it in the pic I posted. I use the Fuses as well. Damn. Let me know what you hear back from them.

I don't see the same hole on your boots in that picture. The only hole I see on yours are at the toe, mine is at the heel. Am I missing something on your pics?

Oops, I was referencing a different picture (that actually shows the heel ;) ). The same hole is there on both my boots.

your pins should sit in the little slot in the binding in between the toe ramp and the ladder. the pins actually have to be backed out a few mm's from being all the way in to fit into the slot.

I have burners with my deeluxes and have no wear and tear issues. i adjusted the heelcups and toe straps on my bindings pretty far out.

upon closer inspection there is some wear and tear... i filed the pin edge down to make it smooth....

Bummer about the wear... especially on the heel from the high back bolt. Looks like Deluxe is using a cheap synthetic that isn't properly abbrasion-tested. De-spec'ing materials to enable price points is always a balance, and all boot/footwear manu's have to do it, but they clearly went too far on the Spark boot and didn't do enough testing before production. I never buy 'first year' product for this very reason. There are production methods to that boot shown in that very pic that they could ditch w/ no ill affects on performance (i.e. the stitch and fold on the heel/Achilles' cap pattern piece is totally not needed, and expensive) that could go towards affording a higher abrasion synthetic, or at least a patch piece in the pattern to accommodate for bolt-wear.

Isn't the heel wear spot in the pic in the leather? At least I think it's leather, not synthetic.

But the point about an abrasion resistant patch to avoid highback / heelcup wear is a good one

What did Deeluxe / Spark say?

Cheers
Ivo
