After seeing some other companies out there that have extended foam grips below the traditional pole grip, I started thinking how I could make my own. Sure a wrap-able grip from say a hockey stick or tennis racquet might work and look just fine, but I wanted to come up with something a little more functional and permanent. The end result - a nice soft foam wrap for secure and comfortable pole grip while side hilling or traversing funky terrain.
I ended up using some small supplies from the shop that I work at. It took a couple of rough tries to get it right, but after some trimming, punching, sanding, and gluing I came up with something that I think looks pretty solid.
Supplies used: - Footbed foam posting - Barge cement - (used for gluing posting to foot beds)
Tools Used: - Punch (cut the end of a ski pole tip off just below the basket for a smaller diameter hole, beveled the cut end off to be a sharp cutting end) - Belt sander (used the wet belt grinder to taper off the foam at the edges) - Sand paper for finishing the seam - Masking Tape
Photos below! Enjoy. (more photos posted on blog - link in signature..)

same, i've been just heading up the mountain once in a while early AM to watch the sun come up. trying to make the best of what little coverage there is.
let me see if i can get some more posting from the basement and i might be able to make some grips for you. id like to see how mine hang on before i glue more - since this is the first pair i've done. i've also heard the glue we use for the footbeds (the barge cement) is used for re-soling climbing shoes. I think it's pretty bomber stuff..
ill keep you posted. if we get some snow maybe i can try them.
have you been up around cameron pass much? i've done a little touring up there - not much snow still, but more than we have in the valley.

No CP yet this year, been keeping it local. Harrison Creek, West Summit And even been exploring the new clearcuts up on Gore, (Might need some low angle shots when we finally get a load). Fingers crossed for this weekend. How do you like those Voile poles? Heard they whistle in the wind. Ordered a pair for my wife anyway.
