no big changes lately. still doing the dance on the fence with temps. received a few scant inches over the past week, but still only riding in bounds. the terrain at resorts is slowly increasing with snow guns running overtime. still less than 6" in the bc, even along the upper ridgelines. very few are people are venturing off snowmaking trails, and with good reason. it's boney as hell.
light rain today just switched over to snow above 1800' around 9pm. might end up w/ a few new inches in the morning, but that's about it.
we'll get there, but it could be mid-jan before any bigger weather pattern changes are seen i'm told
talk again w/ any updates or changes, enjoy the holidays all
happy holidays everyone. quick update, we've started to receive more consistent light to moderate snow showers over the past several days. this has slowly added up to close to a foot of new on the upper ridgelines as of late yesterday, giving us 6-16" of natural currently in the bc right now depending on elevation (N. central VT). temps have been holding steady this week compared to the roller coaster ride we've been on over the past 6 weeks. a bit colder now and it was snowing hard all day yesterday at elevation and another more signif storm is expected to impact the area starting tomorrow nite into wednesday, then yet another system for the upcoming new years w/e. should put us in much better shape for finally starting to build a base, but we're still far from jumping into the woods. we need more snow and some freeze thaw cycles to start locking shit in, then more snow. until then, we're riding in-bounds or skinning up closed/defunct ski area trails to get a fix. still, our conditions continue to improve and we remain optimistic. stay tuned for more info and keep doing your snow dances. peace to all, be well
fyi, tues night's storm will arrive wet and should continue wet into wed morning with things quickly turning back over in a dramatic flip of temps, plummeting into wed eve with light snow accumulations forecasted as the system exits and clearing skies overnight. this will pull down reinforcing cold air from canada with expected lows on thurs morning in N. VT in the neg single digits, with neg teens up on the mtn.
optimistically, all this will provide a good lockdown on the current base and assure a good surface to build on, albeit shallow right now. pessimistically, the snow surface in-bounds will once again harden considerably after wed and stay that way until a new system pulls into our area this upcoming w/e with possible light accumulating snow again.
it doesn't seem this roller coaster ride is over just yet

I had some personal matters I had to deal with the past 8 months. I had just been given a fly rod from an old timer I work with too. But I didn't get the chance to use it. This man has been fishing the winooski for decades but he's hard to get out on the water. I'd really like to find someone to fish with that knows some about the sport!
the rain turned over to snow around noon today and temps are dropping fast, I-89 is now closed and the snow is coming down hard but sideways. should get a few inches this afternoon/eve before things mellow and the storm pulls out. sun with single digits tomorrow for highs on the hill.
hoping for some bigger storms come the new year, be safe everyone
storm totals today are coming in well over a foot along spine of the central greens from the breadloaf north thru mansfield region, with 8-10" easy. still, very strong NW winds were blowing things around a bunch, so expect to see variations.
will post again tomorrow after heading up the hill in the AM
good news, we look to be moving into a more active weather pattern starting Fri with a series of upper level troughs moving thru our area into mid-week, helping us build that base. temps will remain cold thru early next week. this larger shift is very encouraging.
it's super cold but bluebird this am, mansfield stake now showing 20". slept in today.
seems at least we're moving in the right direction weatherwise, talk again soon
