We walked about 1/2 mile out Blackwood canyon today and then took a right and scrambled up the canyon wall to the ridge, then walked back that to Stanford Rock (the head of Ward Canyon were the Apline Meadows Sherwood chair starts).
This is up high on the canyon wall. Zero snow out in the open on southern exposures:
Pretty bleak on top:
We briefly wore snowshoes on top, but mostly just because we had brought them along. There really was no pressing need.

Went out to Castle Peak on Christmas Day - the approach road was really icey and we boot packed out Andesite Ridge, which was bare. Rode/skied the NW slope of Castle above the Grubb Hut and the snow was really good sugar/pow with some mixed in crust...thin coverage, of course. Trying to post pics but still having issues.
A lot of walking for a little bit of riding, but a fun adventure nonetheless.

I've not gotten out, except some logging roads at the end of my road just to walk to the dogs for a few hours, but it's been snowing since Tuesday night and it's not let up much at all here in the Trinity Alps! Watching the forecast and precip maps, seeing the rain/snow/slush falling out of the sky here in town and I'm led to believe that by the time this storm abates, not expected to until tuesday with chances of snow continuing on for the next few days, there'll have fallen at least 4-6' of snow up in the mountains! That said, it's fallen on dry ground as our last snow was in early November.

High and north-facing was the call on Wednesday. Found pow out on Ralston after a night of full moon skinning and snow camping. Thanks to aksltxlt for showing me around his stomping grounds...

Went out a couple of times this week (mt. rose, carson pass), didn't have any pictures, or enough to say to justify a trip report. Just wanted to let everyone know that high elevations held snow well, and north facing aspects have stayed really soft. It may not seem like winter, but there is still plenty of fun to be had if your willing to find it. Oh and the forecast says snow, and at lake level too!
