I haven't posted any TR's since the forums have been twitchy. For the past 4 weeks I have been hitting up Butler Gulch with my usual BC buds.

First weekend was October 9th. It was dumping that day, but it was probably also the first snow of the year.

We found a couple of turns and a bunch of snowsnakes...

Still it was good to get out.
The next weekend had filled in quite a bit more.
Now this is a rock board.

Last weekend we went up to the higher areas, and found the beach to be nice. Treeline runs are in good condition too. I really haven't hit a rock since the first weekend out and that was October 9th. I have since switched to the split (which is trashed anyway, anyone got a good deal on a split?) and have been having a good time back there since.
So far the masses haven't figured out BG is in, but posting this isn't going to help the situation any. I checked out Berthoud pass last weekend. It has a long way to go. Weird because Butler Gulch is at the foot of the pass.

Very nice. Good to see some pics. And, I love the rock board . I've resorted to using JB Weld on mine, I think this will be last season for that board.

These convenient stashes are becoming more difficult to find. BG will probably become more popular because of characteristics such as: its relatively close proximaty to Denver, quick access, and multi-use. That is what I love about the Mosquito Range where I live. There are many lines and hardly anyone goes back there. Sure, you have to spend a little more time on the skins, but I think it's worth it. Part of my goal this year is to hit more of these remote areas and experience the solitude, adventure, and decent-without-beta.

Or, maybe I should just move to Montana

Butler Gulch is no big secret. In fact, it is in the running for the most popular backcountry area in the state. The thing is, people just don't go there early season. That and Jones Pass are probably the best early season areas in the Front Range.
