Well, the 2011/12 season has officially started with an incredible trip to Sol Mountain touring just outside of Monashee Provincial Park roughly halfway in between Revelstoke and Cherryville, BC. I was lucky enough to be invited up to Sol Mountain Lodge by a friend, Riel MacBoudreau, to join Owners, Aaron Cooperman and Dave Flear as well as Conor Mackenzie, Michael Schadinger, Steve Schadinger, Paul Person, Jim Cooperman, Bob Boonstra and Garret Boyd for an incredible early season week of pow surfin! One splitboarder amongst 10 skiers made for quick touring but the riding was so good for barely December. This is just a tiny sample of what Sol Mountain has to offer and I highly recommend checking it out.
The video starts with the bit of video I was able to get and then the following photos set to music. Unfortunately, out of the roughly 20 lines we hit I only got seven videos as my helmet cam wasn't cooperating but c'est la vie! Hopefully this still gets you stoked with what is to come for the year!
Dates: November 29th - December 4th - 2011 Location: Sol Mountain (Monashee Mountains), British Columbia, Canada
Interested in checking out Sol Mountain and its massive selection of terrain, check out their website at http://www.solmountain.com/ Thanks again to Sol Mountain! Simply amazing!
Shiraz on the left, the lodge notch at the col and Merlot on the right. We hit Merlot the first day...
Mt. Fosthall...
Quite the view....we really only had one clear day the whole trip but we took advantage of the day and headed into the alpine to the summit of Mt. Baldur
Mt. Baldur on the left and Sol Mountain on the right...
A good day to be in the mountains....
Checking out the view from the ridge....
Got back to the lodge to enjoy this sunset...
Pretty amazing!
Some good wind transport this evening in the alpine...
Mt. Fosthall in the distance...
Up the skin track...
The moon?
Headed to the summit of Mt. Baldur...
Checking out the entrance to "Tunnel Vision"
One more look at "Tunnel Vision"
A look back up at the line we just rode "Tunnel Vision"...was pretty windblown and shitty down at the bottom.....amazing line but probably the worst snow we rode all week...
Before shred...
Apres shred...
A tight little couloir for the next trip....
Scoping the next line...
Pow and it is barely December...
Roughly a 15-20 minute heli ride in to the lodge from Cherryville or Revy and then grab your deck and go...
