aksltxlt had planted the seed on Thursday with a weather report for Mt. Charleston, NV and Snowvols sealed the deal the next morning with an inquiry into the same area.

I had no idea I would be snowboarding that weekend, but hours later the car was packed and I was headed north on the 15 for the relatively short drive to Vegas. Picked up another dirtbag splitter at Cajon pass.

Splitboarding is not something I would normally associate with Las Vegas and I had no idea what to expect.

After indulging...maybe a little too much...in the city that never sleeps, we were soon breaking trail in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.





Snowvols had driven through the night from SL, UT and had found us a bonafide local from the TGR forum. Apparently there are not many BC riders in Vegas, which amazes me given the terrain just outside of town.

They only get about 200" annually and just about everything on the ground was fresh.



We found a nice zone that was sheltered from the winds and banged out about 3000' feet vert over two laps, temperatures were in the low teens.





Snowvols was off to run his marathon the next morning(crazy fucker), and Nick and I toured again with Matt just north of the ski area. The whole area has huge potential with a decent base and the right conditions...



I was really impressed with the scenary, certainly not what I expected.

Lucky guys! Thanks for sharing your adventure. We have to live vicariously thru these pics (saw them first on the MM forum). I would have never thought Vegas had such an amazing backcountry

On Sunday, the big peak in the background looking like wyoming....was that accessable?

Rad! That area got hammered with the low centered right over southern NV, we got less than half the snow in northern AZ.
On occaisons like this, that area really is a viable option for SoCal splitters.

For you too man! With the new bridge over the Hoover Dam you could make it out in 4 hours. I'm jealous of that trip! I can fly there for $30...I'll keep a better eye out next time.

Well I decided to organize this trip Friday the day before I leave for the marathon. I get in touch with Mark and we had a blast. I left SLC at around midnight Friday night and show up at that fools hotel at around 6ish. Dude is still drunk I was pretty sure so we went to CoCo's for Breakfast. We ate so much and I think Mark sobered up a bit.
I will say this, Vegas has the snow sucka.

Sorry there aren't action shots. We got roughly 4K vert in the trees and I didn't bother taking the camera out each time down. My legs were fried for the marathon so 20 weeks of training went down the drain. That and it was the most crowded marathon that ever existed. Super fun time and was stoked Matt off of TGR showed us around to a few of his hidden spots. It was something I was not used to seeing at all which was skin tracks not in every direction. I only saw one other skinner the entire day and it was right by the ski area. I got a few faceshots and it helped keeping me going during my run haha.
