Airplane mode turns off your gps as well, at least on an iPhone it does.
Oh, that sucks. Still works on android.
Yeah one feature the iPhone lacks that it should really have without having to jailbreak it.
The whole purpose of Airplane mode is to turn OFF all wireless features, transmissions, receiving, etc from the device so it doesnt interfere with other electronic equipment such as when you're on an airplane. So on the iPhone it works exactly as it's intended as you would expect unlike Android where results may vary.
Or on the flip side an Android fan may argue that the user should be allowed to use it the way they want to not the way Apple wants you to. LOL.
It looks like some Android phones will allow you to turn off cellular data but still have access to GPS. Its unclear if this is by design or if its a hole in the OS (not being a fan of Android I'm going with the latter ). Really tho, I can see why there could be times where you want to do this but the feature wouldn't be called Airplane mode then....it would be called Advanced Airplane mode or Peusdo Airplane mode.

@bcrider I do web development and focus especially on Responsive Web Design/Development, which is basically build once, single code base, and use CSS to detect device width and resize the page depending on that width. So the site can be optimized for a mobile browser experience and work on multiple mobile devices (ios, android, windows phone, etc.). This could cut down load time on mobile devices as well by only loading certain images/media on desktop/tablet sized devices (Assuming these devices to have a fatter bandwidth). Let me know if you'd like to discuss some more.
