Please feel free to substitute "skin" for "run".

Of course here in Colorado, you can just go buy a .50 cal with API ammo to keep the Bears away, with no waiting period... :headbang:

For $200 dogsleds can be hired. I'm sure they could get to a suitable basecamp.

So I'm getting pretty close to booking a trip to Svalbard this coming May. I'm 90% certain that this trip will happen for me, and will post up once I've put my deposit and confirmed dates on my Svalbard trip.

I think I'll be out there the last week of May, with Doug Stoup's group (IceAxe.tv). I'm working that out right now. I hadn't realized that flights from the Peninsula to Svalbard were so costly, so if there is any chance that people would like to adventure from Longyearbyen before or after our yacht trip, I might be open to extending my stay in Longyearbyen before or after our trip (but honestly I feel significantly more comfortable being on a guided group with local terrain knowledge and firearms training, as I have none).

I do plan to tour outside of Tromso in mid-to-late May, before the Svalbard trip. Exact dates TBD, once I have the Svalbard trip booked.

Anyways, please PM if you're interested in Lyngen Alps or Svalbard adventures in that general time frame (mid-May to first week of June).

Sounds awesome. Props for taking the plunge!

I was planning a road trip round Norway a couple of years ago, and trawled through a few threads on here to look for Norwegians to ask for advice. I PM'd johan, NorwayBrder, Gunnar, eivind62, arild, RuneG, supah, ove. I think there a few more on here now, have a look round trip reports and furberg threads, I'd say!

Arild was super helpful, and based nearish the Lyngen Alps at the time, Narvik, I think. Don't know if he still is.

Best of luck, have fun planning, and keep us posted. If you camp, make damn sure you've got enough twine for a bear-i-meter fence that's going to work! Or a dog.
