Anyone is welcome, as long as you have the understanding that this is not a guided event and everyone will be responsible for themselves, as other splitfests prior have done. We encourage people to have avalanche training and know how to navigate backcountry terrain. Although the San Juans have some awesome terrain, it has high avalanche activity. We will have local beta available for people to help them make choices, but it will in no means be a guided event, as everyone is responsible for themselves. We can direct people to guide services if you would like that.

That being said, I do not want to discourage anyone from attending, we are planning on having this be a fun event where splitboarders can come together and enjoy stoke at the end of the day together, and ride a place they may have not been in before.

And to clarify I am helping Keffler put this on, which is why I have commented.

We will be providing details as soon as we firm up plans. Stay tuned.

Not fimiliar with the area, are there other trail heads, peaks nearby to ride or will all the splitting be done on Silverton and if so does that mean a lift ticket?

Tex, I'm pretty sure you sparked the idea last year, so I'm thinking you might not be serious with that comment. :D

But to clear it up this has no affiliation with Silverton Mountain ski hill. It is a leg powered event. We have a few things to ride  .

The san juans are a tiny little mountain range and get almost no snow. You should probably stay in the sierra where the mountains are way bigger.

I was serious Charley. I do know you could pack about 30 splitters on silverton and be ok, so I thought you guys may have worked something out . But, I dont think we dirt bags could come up with the cash to keep the helis out

Side note- The San Juans were the first real mountain range I ever saw. Most likely what sent me out west when I got older. I was a little 6 year old from flattonia and had never seen anything over 150ft feet in elevation

As HFT's photo may begin to demonstrate, there will be no shortage of true backcounty terrain. The only question is how much snow will there be and what will the weather and avalanche conditions be?
