Headed up the NSW main range this past weekend to see what the last two weeks of snow had left behind. The trip started on Friday at 2pm as we made our way up to the top of the tree line at 1800m. We set up camp and had a feed and hit the hay. Overnight temp of -6 degC made the morning conditions super hard, you could see your reflection in the ice in places. Made me wish i'd packed the crampons
In the afternoon the upper slopes softened and we had 3 runs for the day.
Headed up again for the second day and the conditions were even worse after another day of freeze - thaw
Had a quick feed and made the long trip back home
Hopefully in 4-6 weeks the base will have established itself and we can get on with the season
