Anyone out there consider a pre-order of the 2011-2012 Karakoram bindings?

if they had more than 1" stance width options
...waiting to pull the $800 trigger if they can confirm they fixed this. Emailed them and am waiting for reply.

I've emailed them too about it. I want to upgrade to the SL's but like you need the ride mode adjustment. Otherwise I'll be switching to something else next season.

Word is that it's a 1/4" increment on the prototype mod. I'm not sure if that works out for me, it might but I need to check next time I'm in Tahoe.

I'll be doing some type of pre-order here shortly. I have the original bindings, won't be doing a full upgrade but will be swapping out some of the parts. for sure the heel cups and the highbacks.

love the new design!

I would like to get them but I'd rather pay half now and half when they are ready to be shipped. I think it is cool that they have a little perk for the preorders (clamps, or crampons). I think that I would just order both. I really like their machine work, and they do appear to be a very solid product.
@tiltedworld - what do you mean check in Tahoe, you mean demo a pair?

What I meant was to measure and see if 1/4" adjustment on each foot can get my stance to where I want to to be. Right now with the ride modes I can either choose to be 1/2" back of where I want to be on the board, or ride 1" wider than normal. Neither are ideal, but the 1/2" further back is more doable for me in deeper mid-winter conditions.

I will measure in a few weeks when I'm back up in Tahoe (my boards are up there) and see what the mod looks like later this summer before making a decision to order the SL's or not. Either way, my standard Karakoram bindings will be for sale later in the summer/fall when the snowpack is gone for good.

That is kind of what I thought that you meant. Would you send me some pictures of your bindings that you will be selling? I am just starting out, and I'm not sure if I need to go full on and get the new Karakoram bindings.

1/4" adjustment increments seems plenty adequate to me. That means at MOST you'd be off 1/8" from your exact current preferred stance location on each foot. It's also much more consistent than the Voile puck method of swapping the A/B sides of the discs, which doesn't give you adjustment in equal increments around the 1" insert locations.

Yep Jim, that's what I am hoping for too. Thanks for the info on the voile too. Being still pretty damned new to splitting, I've never used the universal pucks, only the DIY pucks and the Karakoram system. Going to DIY my short board when I get a new resort board next season too, regardless of binding choice to leave back east for my annual visits to VT (less travel luggage, as the trips are usually work related and a pain to carry/store snow luggage)

I'm actually thinking that I might have multiple options to choose from that would work if each foot get that 1/4" adjustment in either direction. WARNING, total geek out below

1. 21.5", 1.5" back (current setup and great for powder, would like to be a little wider overall)
2. 21.5", 1 3/8" back (shifting both ride modes fwd 1/4" from #1)
3. 21.5", 5/8" back (shifting both ride modes back 1/4" from moving the stance up an insert pack)
4. 21.75", 9/16" back (moving back foot only back from #3)
5. 21.75", 1 3/8" back (moving front foot fwd from #1)
6. 22.5", 1" back (current hardpack setup, works great for lower angle stuff, too wide for everyday use or steeps)
8. 22", 1" back (shifting both feet inward from #5)
9. 22.25", 7/8" back (moving back foot fwd from #1)

Right now I can use #1 & #5. Neither are perfect, but both are usable. Now that I know where my ST likes to be ridden, the other options that might work for me (#2,8,9) - as #3/4 I likely would experience some of the same issues I had this season, with #8 being the likely best bet.

Of course its all total hearsay until we see what the redesigned ride mode plate looks like  . I just hope it is finalized by 7/31 so I can take advantage of their discount if I go the SL route. Otherwise I guess it will be the Spark Burners next year. (the blaze highback was too soft to my liking)
